. Lee is good for 3 years with a 3 to 5% per year drop in ability. Stay in texas where you will be forgiven. As a yankee fan via genetics I test out with pinstriped DNA. So why the lee advice. The yanks are either below championship ability or getting old in to many areas. A 140 million dollar 32yr old pitcher does not cure their ills. Cashman is repelling down landmark square preparing to see if he could fly if the yanks get beat up in the division. I think the word "rebuilding" is going to have to be accepted. Start with buck catching and some arms that will build and not wither. The yankees have to reemerge with a murder's row not a left fielder that can run. Then there's derek and in two years a-rod. Then mariano and presently aj, jaba and one year for andy. Teixeira and cano are the constants of the next decade.

Hey, KAnst. Nice to see you around these parts.

I would love to see a return on them via trade, and that could happen once we get deeper into Spring Training. Pitching is thin around the league, and some teams don't have a major-league ready guy in the minors should a starter go down.

I'd rather let Karstens jump into AAA and see if he can up his value. I don't think he'd fetch much in a trade right now, but if he gets off to a solid start this year, that could change.

This is why I love the spring.

My biggest problem with Karstens is that insane flyball ratio. Last year he had one of the highest flyball ratios of any starter. In the pros that is going to lead to some serious homerun issues. Both of these guys are more of filler options, they could hold down the 5th spot for a while but arent long term solutions. I would love for them to pitch real well and then net us something nice in a trade

Oh, I paid attention to Down on the Farm all right -- it was my favorite part of IGWT/BB. I just don't have a photographic memory.

Shouldn't that make you more optimistic about Karstens, then? After demotion, he killed AA, and when he came back up to AAA he lowered his ERA to 4.58 (also in seven starts). Unscientifically (since I don't have the innings numbers), that would mean his ERA was around 1.31 in the second stint.

***His hot start at AA in 2006 may be indicative of Karstens’ ability to settle in once he’s at a certain level for a while (or it may be a small sample size).***

I see you weren't paying attention to "Down on the Farm" earlier in the year Joe. Karstens started 2006 at AAA, went 0-5 with a 7.01 ERA in 7 starts before being shipped down to AA in mid-May.

I'm not at all optimistic about either Karstens or Rasner, and with Hughes, Sanchez, Ohlendorf and (to a lesser extent) Clippard as close to big league ready as either Karstens or Rasner, those 2 are nothing more than trade bait in my eyes.
