On winning the World Series

By

Alex Belth pens a piece for Baseball Prospectus’ Hope & Faith series on How the Yankees can win the World Series. It’s a good read as always from Belth. You do need to be a BP subscriber to read it, but that’s a worthwhile investment if you’re a baseball fan.

I was listening Jason Stark said on the espn radio with Mike and Mike in the morning. The Yankees will not make the playoffs this year and He picks the Redsox to win Al east. According to Jayson Stark , Yankees doesn’t have enough pitching and injuries in their pitching staff. Meanwhile He said Redsox have three legitimate aces on their pitching rotation.

RAB Edit: Seriously, folks. Homophobic comments don’t help you prove your point. The spelling has been fixed here.

Once again, I ask the question: how, in any way, is Josh Beckett an ace?

But Joe, he was great for those 2 weeks back in 2003 and he’s on the Red Sox now, that qualifies him as an ace! Duh

Of course! How could I be so naive?

    people still watch/listen to ESPN?

At the beginning of every season some selection of the (N)ESPN crew predicts that the Yankees won’t make the playoffs. One of these years they’ll be right. Don’t think it’ll be this time though.

As for the Sawx staff, you could argue they have no aces. Bye-Bye Beckett was a disaster last season, Schilling is fat and old and faded down the stretch last year, and Dice-K remains unproven, though I think he’ll have a very good year. Given the question marks on their staff, I wouldn’t be surprised if they had to rush Clay Buckhead or whatever his name is to the bigs this season, the same way they rushed Hansen, Lester, et al up before they were ready last season.

Man, Clay Buchholz has pitched exactly 16 innings in High-A ball. If he makes it to the majors in the second half next year like Gammons thinks, that’d be a miracle. His ETA is 2009 or 2010.

It would benefit the Yanks for the Sawx to call him up next year.
