I know life in the minor leagues can be rough, with the long bus rides, crappy hotels and baseball groupies (well, maybe that last part ain’t so bad), but no team should ever have to play a doubleheader when the first game starts at 6 pm. Double-A Trenton did just that tonight.
Triple-A Scranton (3-1 win over Pawtucket)Â
Kevin Reese: 1 for 4, 1 R, 1 2B, 1 K
Andy Phillips: 2 for 4, 1 R, 1 HR, 3 RBI – he’s killin’ it,  clearly the best hitter in the Yanks system so far this year…
Eric Duncan: 0 for 3 – you know what, his numbers really haven’t been THAT bad this year…
Shelley Duncan: 0 for 3, 1 K
Bronson Sardinha: 1 for 3, 1 K – 8 for his last 37, but 10 RBI in that span
Alberto Gonzalez: 0 for 3, 1 E (throwing)
Steven Jackson: 7.1 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 5 K, 1 WPÂ – best start of the year BY FAR
Ron Villone: 1.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 2 K
Double-A Trenton
Game 1 (11-7 loss to Portland in 7 innings)
Jamal Strong: 1 for 2, 3 BB
Noah Hall: 3 for 4, 2 RBI – meet the latest career minor leaguer (30 yrs old, 0 MLB at bats) signed to fill out a roster, but unlike the others, this dude can actually hit (check out those K/BB ratios)…
PJ Pilittere: 2 for 4, 2 R, 1 2B
Justin Christian: 3 for 4, 1 R, 1 RBI – threw a runner out at second from LF
Matt Carson: 1 for 3, 1 R, 2 RBI, 1 K
Jason Jones: 4 IP, 9 H, 9 R, 9 ER, 2 BB, 7 K – they left him out there to take one for the team alright…his ERA went from 1.37 to 3.86…
Bob Zimmermann: .1 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 0 K, 1 WP, 1 HB – not what I had in mind when I said he was a potential scrap heap steal…
Game 2 (5-0 loss to Portland in 7 innings)Â game didn’t start until 9:30…
Shawn Garrett: 1 for 3, 1 2B, 1 K
Carlos Mendoza: 1 for 1, 1 2B, 2 BB
rest of lineup:Â 0 for 17, 3 BB, 1 KÂ – Aarom Baldiris made his 11th error (throwing)Â in 24 games…
Michael Gardner: 4 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 2 K, 1 WP
Kevin Whelan: 2 IP, 2 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 3 K, 3 WP – all 3 of those wild pitches came in the same at bat…
High-A Tampa was smoked out. The game will not be made up.
Low-A Charleston (7-4 loss to Savannah, game called after the top of the 6th due to rain)
Mitch Hilligoss: 1 for 3, 1 R – 18 game hit streak and counting…
Austin Jackson: 1 for 3, 1 RBI, 1 CS – nice little 8 game hit streak going, only 3 K over that span
3-4-5 hitters: 0 for 7
Eduardo Nunez: 1 for 2, 1 R, 1 3B, 1 E (throwing) – 29 games into the season, he finally gets his first XBH
Josue Calzado: 0 for 2, 1 R, 2 K
Jose Gil: 1 for 2, 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 PB, 1Â E (missed catch)
Wilmer Pino: 1 for 2, 1 RBI
Angel Reyes: 3.1 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 4 BB, 3 K, 1 WP – starts getting uglier and uglier each time out…
John Axford: .2 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 3 K – let both inherited runners score, and you gotta love that 3 of the 2 outs he recorded where strikeouts (damn passed balls)…

Word on the street is Marcos Vechionacci will be back in action next week.
