So, what's (Eric) Duncan's season line now? How much of a tear does he need to go on to be this season's answer to Cano 2005 and Cabrera 2006?

My bad Dan, I must have just misread or something. The 1 for 1 line makes much more sense now.

I could be wrong, but I believe that if a club actively removes a player from the organization (ie declining his option/releasing him/non-tendering him as opposed to the player opting out of his contract/the deal just plain old expiring) they can't offer arbitration and thus can't get a compensation pick. Again, I could be wrong. I'll dig around and try to get you a more definitive answer.

White was injured and is now working his way back. He said this of his injury: "I had an irritated nerve, a spinal accessory nerve that went to my trap (as in trapezius muscle), so my trap actually atrophied because that nerve wasn't firing right." I have no friggin' idea what the hell that means, but it kept him out since Spring Training.

Steven White was out with a shoulder injury.
http://tinyurl.com/2rmomy

There's a more detailed article on Scout.com but it's behind the paid door. The gist of it was that he had an irritated "spinal accessory nerve" that was attached to his trapezius. Essentially, this nerve wasn't operating correctly so his trapezius got messed up. They rested him up and apparently everything is back to normal now.

The Yankees would only get compensation if they decline his option AND offer him arbitration.

The circumstance doesn't matter as long as arbitration is offered. Although, I think there was a specific clause in JD Drew's contract (or so I heard) that said the Dodger's would not offer him arbitration should he choose to opt out of his contract...hence the reason the Sox did not have to give up their pick for signing him.
