Starting to pull his weight?

By Mike Axisa

Don’t look now, but Doug Mientkiewicz is 6 for 15 (.400) with 2 homers and 6 steaks in his last 5 starts, while playing his usual phenomenal-but-never-fully-appreciated defense at first. Funny how Minky stepped it up the day after this post appeared at RAB.Â

John says:

Hmmm. You know who the only major leaguer without enough talent to go 6 for 15 at some point in the season? Wil Nieves.

John’s got a point.

But anyway, I’m not routing against Mientkiewicz. It would be great if he could succeed. I’m rooting against using him every day when he’s struggling. Paging Mr. Phelps.

Tyler Simons says:

The Red Sox fully appreciated Mientkiewicz’s defence at first. That’s why they put him in to play the bottom of the 8th or top of the 9th in close games.
