But with the way the draft rules are set up this year, teams have more incentive to say "screw your demands, we're taking you anyway." If they don't sign, the team gets the pick after their pick this year. To clarify, if the Royals take Porcello #2 and he doesn't sign, they'll get the #3 pick next year. If the Yankees take Porcello at #30 and he doesn't sign, they get the #31 pick next year. This is exactly why Matt Weiters won't fall. Supposedly he is asking for Beckett money (like 10 million and a pro contract). If I was the Yanks I would call Boras and let him know we will meet the contract demand if he can steer Porcello to us.
