There were 2 once great Yankee prospects in the lineup for both Syracuse and Erie tonight when they played Triple-A Scranton and Double-A Trenton, respectively. Well, 3 great and 1 pretty good one would be more accurate. I don’t really have a point to make, but it’s a nice little reminder that things don’t always go as planned with prospects.
Go ahead and click on the box score links and see if you can figure out who the 4 guys are, it’s not not too hard at all.
Triple-A Scranton (7-4 win over Syracuse)
Justin Christian: 0 for 4, 1 R, 1 RBI – just up from Scranton
Shelley Duncan: 2 for 3, 1 R, 1 HR, 4 RBI, 1 K – in other news, Andy Phillips struck out again…
Eric Duncan: 0 for 4
Bronson Sardinha: 0 for 3
Alberto Gonzalez: 1 for 4, 1 R, 1 3B – 3 for his last 8…call him up!
Tyler Clippard: 5 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 5 BB, 2 K, 2-10 GB/FB – still looks like he’s afraid to throw strikes…
Chris Britton: 2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 3 K – first time since May that he didn’t allow an ER in an outing
Jim Brower: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 0 K – this dude’s just on a roll, no baserunners allowed in 6 of his last 10 outings
Double-A Trenton (9-6 win over Erie)
Brett Gardner: 1 for 4, 2 R, 1 BB, 1 K, 1 SB – 11 hits in his last 7 games…
Andy Cannizaro: 2 for 5, 1 R, 2 RBI
Cody Ehlers: 0 for 4, 1 BB, 2 K
Noah Hall: 2 for 3, 1 R, 1 2B, 3 RBI, 1 BB – 9 hits in his last 5 games…
PJ Pilittere: 2 for 4, 1 R, 1 BB
Gabe Lopez: 3 for 5, 1 R, 1 2B, 1 3B, 2 RBI – 2nd straight 3-fer game…
Joba Chamberlain: 5.2 IP, 5 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 3 BB, 9 K, 2 WP – worst start as a pro…
Tim Lavigne: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 0 K – take away his meltdown last time out, and he hasn’t allowed a single baserunner since taking over as closer
High-A Tampa‘s game with Lakeland was suspended due to rain after the 2nd inning. They’ll pick it up tomorrow; all you need to know is that Jose Tabata doubled, and he’s now got 10 doubles on the year, 4 of which have come in his last 9 games. The power’s on it’s way…
Low-A Charleston (2-1 loss to Rome)
Mitch Hilligoss: 1 for 4, 1 R
Seth Fortenberry: 1 for 4, 1 RBI – playing center ’cause Austin Jackson is in Tampa…
Kevin Smith: 2 for 3, 1 BB, 1 K
James Cooper: 2 for 4
Chris Kunda: 0 for 4, 4 K – hadn’t struck out in his 10 previous games…
Hector Noesi: 3 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 1 K, 1 WP
Jesse Hoover: 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 3 BB, 2 K, 1 WPÂ – control’s not there yet, but that’s too be expected…I’m just glad he’s actually pitching in games again…
Short Season Staten Island (4-3 loss to Aberdeen)
Justin Snyder: 0 for 1, 1 R, 1 BB, 1 SB, 1 HBP
Damon Sublett: 1 for 4, 1 BB, 2 K – I wonder if they’d let him pitch part time…he didn’t allow an ER as Wichita State’s closer until his 3rd year in the role after all…
David Williams: 1 for 3, 1 HBP, 1 E (throwing)
DJ Hollingsworth: 2 for 3 – still hasn’t struck out this year…
Angel Reyes: 1.1 IP, 1 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 6 BB, 0 K, 1 WP, 4-0 GB/FBÂ – that’s just not cool man…
Jeff Livek: 2.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 0 K, 6-2 GB/FB
Ryan Zink: 2.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 4 BB, 0 K – still recovering from Tommy John, so the lack of control isn’t really a concern…yet
Phil Bartleski: 2.2 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 5 K – blew the game in the 9th
Rookie GCL Yanks (10-0 loss to GCL Tigers in 5 innings, mercifully called due to rain)
Abe Almonte: 0 for 2, 2 K –0 for 9 with 5 K…
Zolio Almonte: 0 for 2, 1 K
Melky Mesa: 0 for 2, 2 K – 2 for 14, 9 K…
Brandon Laird: 1 for 2
6 thru 9 hitters: combined 0 for 8 – so not only did they give up 10 runs, they got shut down offensively as well
Tim Dennehy: 2.1 IP, 9 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 1 BB, 1 K, 5-1 GB/FBÂ – Yanks drafted him in 2006, but he went back to school and they signed him as an undrafted FA
Manny Barreda: 2 IP, 6 H, 5 R, 4 ER, 1 BB, 3 K – generously listed a 5’9″, but he’s got a big fastball (95+)…and a long way to go
No CWS today, Finals kick off tomorrow at 7pm EST on ESPN.
