Agree about Andy. (Although I am slightly inclined to cut Joe some slack because I think he really, really, really wanted to be sure to get that first W coming out of the break.) Joe’s continuing tendency to pull starters like that is part of the reason for our overwrought pen. Right now, Wang is the only starter who gives us more than 6 with any regularity. Clemens has done it for two starts in a row, but it remains to be seen if that’s going to be a trend. And when Hughes returns, Joe will be yanking him at the drop of a hat.

If you need the pen to pitch 3 every day, and it takes 3-5 guys to get that 3 , and you throw in the occasional

We’ll see Abreu start tonight. Do you honestly think Joe manages with that kind of day to day focus? Naaahhh…

Would love to see Edwar get some consistent work. If he’s gonna rot in the BP in the majors, I’d rather see him in AAA working on his control…

Mo probably actually needed the work. So as much as the general concept of Mo pitching with a 4-run lead irritates me, I’m willing to let this one go.

It’s the juxtaposition of this with Torre’s (non)useage of Mo in tie games on the road that really gets my blood up. But this move is at least defensible.

I don’t buy that Abreu got messed up by facing tough lefties. Are there any similar patterns from the rest of his career? If not, this is just flukey. If there have been past instances of LHP’s screwing up his swing… well, ok, maybe you’re on to something.

It is a common fallacy that the result of the move determines its correctness. A move is either correct or not, and the outcome doesn’t change that.

If Wang has thrown 115 pitches over 8 innings and we’re leading 2-0, the correct move is to bring in Mo. If Mo blows the save, it was still the correct move (even though some morons would say otherwise), just as leaving Wang in to finish the game would be the wrong move, even if he completed the shut-out.

So don’t let the outcome influence you as far as criticizing the move goes. If you think the move is wrong, say so and back it up with your reasons.
