Just maybe.

Gagne is hurt, and Farnsworth sucks.

That's kind of the jist of it, as far as I'm concerned.

I caught Torre's interview on M&tMD Thursday, and Torre sounded very confident about Farny. Said they'd worked out the personal issues, and, more importantly, that Guidry had put in some long hours with him on the mound.

I think a large pt of it was confidence. You could see it today. He gets ahead on the 1st batter 1-2, and then looked a bit lost. You could just see him walking the guy and giving up a 2-run blast. Instead, he threw several strikes at 3-2, and then once he got him to fly-out, it was like he had his old swagger back.

That said, he wasn't exactly hitting Jorge's target today -- neither was Mo for that matter, I saw a few of his pitches drifting back over the plate when Jorge setup inside -- but both he and Mo managed to blow away the Tiger hitters. Maybe it was that late-afternoon sun!
