Trying something new: Game threads

By Joseph Pawlikowski

So we have this threaded comments thing working, so we’re going to see what we can do with it. Other sites, like Pinstripe Alley and Pete Abraham’s blog, have game threads. Not to play the role of copycat (though by all appearances we are), we’re going to see how that would work ’round these parts. So comment, argue, debate, what have you during the game if you want. Should be a good ol’ time.

P.S. We’ll try to have the thread posted earlier than this on most days.

Yankees
1. Johnny Damon, LF
2. Derek Jeter, SS
3. Bobby Abreu, RF
4. Alex Rodriguez, 3B
5. Hideki Matsui, DH
6. Jorge Posada, C
7. Jason Giambi, 1B
8. Robinson Cano, 2B
9. Melky Cabrera, CF

And on the mound, No. 35, Mike Mussina.

Joseph P. says:

Go Matsui. First pitch groundout.

Joseph P. says:

N-I-C-E

I’ll talk to myself as long as it takes.

zack says:

Maybe you can have a conversation with yourself across different game threads. Here, BB, LoHud. THAT would be impressive

Joseph P. says:

Heh, if I did that I’d hardly have time to watch the game.

Bill says:

mooose fucking blows..thank god for melky.

zack says:

WOW, now THAT was a catch!

Joseph P. says:

Anyone else wanna kill Mussina right now? I know he got out of it, but 3-2 on Pudge after having him 0-2? C’mon Moose.

Bill says:

Who gets Moose next start is the big question. Igawa? no thanks. White? mehhh. Kennedy? I sure as hell hope so.

Joseph P. says:

If Moose doesn’t make it, I’d bet on Igawa.

Mike A. says:

Was Casey just trying to steal? He’d have a better chance to make it on a Rascal scooter!

Ben K. says:

Sean Casey did just score from first on a pop up to shallow center.

And now he’s doing his old “stare at the ump and blame him for the fact that you suck” routine.

Joseph P. says:

And then he goes first to third on a pop to right center.

Malcard89 says:

goodness do u guys hear the bat popping everytime mussina gives up a hit? i mean they are hitting the ball HARD!

ShawnT says:

Moose better buy Melky a beer after this game

zack says:

The problem of taking Moose out of the rotation, is what do you do with him? I don’t see him being too happy or effective out of the BP. And Igawa won’t be any better, and they seem reluctant to use Kennedy…Which leaves White, who I suppose will probably be better than Moose…

Mike A. says:

Meanwhile, Matty DeSalvo’s thrown 3 scoreless for Scranton tonight…

Mike A. says:

Now it’s 6 scoreless.

NYFan50 says:

At this point it doesn’t even matter how many more runs Moose gives up. Anybody think there’s any shot at all of the Yankees putting up 5 runs against Verlander?

Oops, make that 6…

Mike A. says:

3 innings, 6 R…no no no Mike, we wanted 6 innings, 3 R!

cjc says:

is Kay Mussina’s agent or something talk about excuses just shut up

cjc says:

now thats hard to do give up a hr to polanco me thinks ramierez is no good in mop up

Joseph P. says:

Not sure if that means he’s not good in mop-up situations, but he’s definitely not on his game tonight.

Tom O. says:

Whether he’s good or not in the mop up, Ramirez looks like he’s gonna have to take one for the team here. Yanks need someone to eat some innings and unless he’s worse than Moose, it looks like he’s the guy. I’m thinking Sean Henn is coming in next.

cjc says:

I would hope Henn is coming in next. Just a thought on Edwar if memory serves he has pitched poorly when this team is trailing large interetingly enough they were mussina starts not important just small talk

cjc says:

It can’t be good for the team to know you are gauernteed a loss every 5th day and than throw in the growing pains of mr. “franchise” and up and down Roger there are some legit issues showing here

Verlander will have CG SO tonight

Mike A. says:

Are you kidding me!!! A triple by Sean Casey!!!

John says:

The only solace I can find in this game is the knowledge that we can get through the rest of the season only needing the 5th starter 3 times (against Tampa twice and Toronto once). If you just use the guys you call up they’ll be better than Moose.

Oh yeah, Sean Henn sucks giant donkey balls.

Tom O. says:

OK, how about Shelly Duncan pitches?

Mike A. says:

Henn has to just bite the bullet tonight. Finish off the game and let everyone else rest.

John says:

You mean: Joe has to bite the bullet and let Henn finish the game.
Let me go buy a lottery ticket just in case.

Mike R. says:

Someone tell me when I can open my eyes please.

Joseph P. says:

Not yet. Not until tomorrow, at least. And even then it’s questionable.

Marc says:

Hey Mike!
Check out my boy Pope tonight

Player IP H R ER BB SO HR ERA
Pope 6.0 3 0 0 8 0 1.96

Too early for the Pope Watch? lol

Mike R. says:

I love Pope. I think he’s a sleeper in this year’s draft. I think we might see him in Tampa next year.

Mike R. says:

Mighty Matt is making a case for starting the next game in Moose’s place. 7.0 IP 6 H 0 R 2 BB 8 K. Not too shabby.

dan says:

yes, too early for the pope watch, but heres to him earning that distinction. btw, when will the next “watch” be unveiled? there have been numerous discussions on the subject, but mike’s been silent on the topic.

Mike A. says:

The minor league season ends in a week, there’s no point in starting a new Watch now. We’ll unveil the next one at the outset of ‘08.

Mac says:

I really, really, REALLY hope de salvo doesn’t get the start in moose’s stead. I think he’s like the poor man’s tyler clippard. And that isn’t saying much.

C-Note says:

thanks Moose… don’t let the door hit you in the ass on your way out— if we miss the f*cking playoffs by three games or less these games where he was throwing batting practice will hurt as much as the 10 heartbreaking late and /or extra inning games blown— but these games that are freakin over before the 4th inning? SOMEONE AT AAA or AA has to be a able to give us at least a chance every fifth day… right?

Mike R. says:

My choice for the start would be Steven White. he guy has been solid in AAA this year. I don’t think he’ll be spectacular, but I think he can be serviceable, plus there aren’t the pitch count issues there would be with Kennedy.

Mac says:

Is White a sinker type guy? Not to rag too much on mighty matt, but I would infinitely prefer that to the finesse/tricky style of Mr “I read better than I pitch” de salvo.

Mike R. says:

White throws a Four seamer, a two seamer, a curveball and a changeup. He tops out at 96 throws between 91-94 in games. He is not a finesse pitcher.

His GO/AO rate for the year has been almost 1 and he’s striking out 5 per 9 IP

Mac says:

Thanks, very informative.

Nick says:

Most Consecutive Starts Allowing 6 ER
Yankees Starters, Last 50 Years

‘07 Mike Mussina 3
‘00 David Cone 3
‘96 Scott Kamieniecki 3
‘85 Phil Niekro 3
‘84 Ron Guidry 3
‘77 Ed Figueroa 3

The Undertaker says:

Niekro, Guidry, and Cone were nearing the end… much like Mussina.

Luddy Bazcej says:

i tuned out at 6-0, wow 16-0.

cant imagine henn will be around much longer.

Joseph P. says:

I mean, you don’t want to give up on a guy as young as Henn, but you can’t be surprised if he’s DFA’d in favor of Kozlowski tomorrow.

Steve says:

If that happens, I will be 100% sure that before he was demoted, Chris Britton exposed himself in the dugout, pissed in Joe Torre’s coffee cup, and went out with Brian Cashman’s wife.

RJ -Ct says:

If they give Mussina another start and Torre justifies it because it’s scheduled to be against the Devil Rays I’ll freak!!! Who would have thought that Igawa would be a better option than Moose at this point!!!??

Tom O. says:

Britton tomorrow please!

PAndriy says:

Our health in our hands –
and you too!
