Double-A Trenton was off today, and will kick off their best-of-five series against Akron for the Eastern League Championship on Tuesday. It’ll be an interesting series; Trenton’s pitching staff overwhelmed the EL this summer, but Akron’s trio of Chuck Lofgren, Jeremy Sowers (yes that Jeremy Sowers) & Bobby Brownlie (yes that Bobby Brownlie) can shut down anyone at any time (plus they have a rehabbing Adam Miller in the ‘pen). Akron also has a couple guys on their team named Rodney Choy Foo & Cirilo Cumberbatch, and I don’t know about you, but I don’t think I could bet against names like those.
Short Season Staten Island (8-4 loss to Brooklyn) Brooklyn leads the best-of-three series 1-0…Adam O. will try to keep SI’s season alive tomorrow in what is probably the biggest start of his life…Brooklyn will send Dylan Owen to the mound, arguably the best pitcher in the NY-Penn League this year
Justin Snyder: 2 for 4, 1 BB
Taylor Holiday & Damon Sublett: both 0 for 4 – Easter K’ed once, got hit by a pitch & committed a throwing error…Sublett K’ed twice
Braedyn Pruitt: 1 for 4
Austin Krum: 1 for 4, 1 R, 1 2B, 1 K – 18 hits (7 XBH) & 9 RBI in his last 11 games
Jose Gil: 1 for 4, 1 R, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 1 K
Chris Raber: 1 for 4, 1 R, 1 RBI – it’s generally a bad sign for the offense when your DH bats 8th
Matt Morris: 1 for 4, 1 R, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 1 K – 7 hits in his last 6 games
Ryan Pope: 6 IP, 4 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 2 BB, 4 K, 7-6 GB/FB – picked a runner off first…pitched well enough to win, but he had 2 outs in the 6th, then gave up a single & a game-tying 2-run jack…I don’t want to say that’s inexcusable, but it’s pretty darn close
Ryan Zink: 2.1 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 1 K – had allowed only 2 ER in his last 15 IP
Jonathan Ortiz: 0.1 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 1 K – allowed both inherited runners to score…he picked a really bad time allow his first ER since August 5th
