Maybe I'm not understanding your post, but are you saying that Joba is not going to be on the ML roster in 08 to start the year? Or are you saying the Yanks will try to use him in long relief in the bigs to build him up so he can take a rotation slot in June?

Can't see the Yanks starting 08 without Joba being in the mix from day one and in a meaningful role.

Joba threw 37.2 innings in Hawaii last winter, and I don't think the FO is counting that to his inning total this year. There's no way they'll let him go from say 120 IP or so this year to like, 180-190 this year. My guess is they start him in Tampa in short stints (I say Tampa because I think they'll try to keep him out of the frozen tundra that is Scranton in April), and gradually work him up to being a starter, and get him in the ML rotation in June.

Just speculating though.

Slightly off-topic, but how many innings did Joba pitch in the Hawaiian Winter League? And would that count for his innings limit for this year?

I'm trying to think how many innings Joba is slotted for next year, and he's only pitched 100 combined minor and major league innings. He can't be a starter next year and pitch only 140 innings including playoffs. The Yankees will have to be a little creative with their rotation.

I could see 170 innings, but only if Joba pitches around 140 innings total for this year.

I'm going to go on a limb and say IPK beats out Joba & Evan Longoria for ROY 2008. Nothing more than an educated guess though.

Hughes is already at 55 IP. Thus, he's not longer eligible for ROY consideration after the end of this season.

Is Hughes eligible for ROY next year? If so...Who do you give a better chance of winning out the three wiz kids?

Eh. Lowell is just having one of those seasons. He was able to hit a 98 mph fastball for a dinger, but nobody else could do a thing with it. Kinda like the magical season SAndy Alomar Jr. had in 1997 when he was able to lay wood on a Rivera fastball and derail the Yankees in the ALDS.

oh yeah, Lowell shortened up his swing and just took one for a ride. He barely swung at all. It was Joba's power that sent that one up and out. It had to happen(just not to a sock)
