Game 155: We play today, we win today, das it
ByThe Yanks are having a nice little tribute to the late Phil Rizzuto pregame, but otherwise there’s not much going on.
Oh, Joba turns 22 today, so I guess that’s something. Happy Birthday big guy.
Damon, LF
Jeter, SS
Abreu, RF
A-Rod, 3B
Matsui, DH
Cano, 2B
Melk, CF
Mink, 1B
Molina, C
Moose is on the mound, and the ‘pen could use a rest, generally not a good mix. Comment away.

Melk, Mink, Molina…. that’s got a nice ring to it. Hopefully it ends with the other Mo!
McGowan is at 60 through 2 – wow.
Getting him out of the game and getting into that already depleted pen would def. be helpful, not just for today but for tomorrow in case Burnett falters (though with his recent starts, it looks like he prob. won’t)
i really don’t understand the beef you guys have got with melky. he is just too good.
Maybe Tampa will be able to hold a lead against Boston today. Miracles do happen.
Is it just me, or does it seem like there’s been an exorbitant number of plays at the plate recently?
It’s not just you. There’s been a lot. Luckily we’ve got somebody in center with a decent arm.
Harlen is here today for Joba’s birthday. I just saw him in front of 37 briefly. He raised a heckuva son. Happy birthday Joba.
Tampa is well on their way to blowing their 4-0 lead.
Tampa’s 6 outs away…is it possible they can actually beat Boston
cue the predictable power of one Alex Cora
Over/under on the Rays holding a 1 run lead in the 9th?
Buster Olney thinks Al Reyes is a good fit for the Red Sox offense.
Is this Joba with only 1 day of rest after 2 innings? Or did he only pitch 1 inning the other day?
he pitched two; but before that he pitched to one batter over the course of four days. This is what I have never understood. He can have four or five days off, pitch one inning but can’t pitch the next day; hasn’t he “earned” innings with so many extra days off previously? Going into the playoffs I’m sure “days off” will just mean off days in between games, if that.
Nice birthday present – faced 4 guys, strikes out three. That brings the BAA down to .135 for the year and a K:BB of 31:6. Damn.
3 strikeouts, and the 4th guy hit a little 10 foot nubber back to Joba.
Complete domination.
after getting towers back yesterday, it’s nice to see the yanks rub it in a little
Joba’s post game interview was great. They asked him about the Joba Rules and he said “I guess rules were made to be broken”. Just think, we thought someone like J Brent Cox would be in that position this year.
250th career win for Moose.
hell of a career moose
Anybody else think Buster Olney jokes need to go on a hiatus until next year?
Oh, sorry. I meant, “Buster Olney thinks Buster Olney jokes got old fast.”
JMHO.
When used in the right context, Buster Olney jokes are a good fit for this site (aka when something is so obvious that it doesn’t need to be said).
“When used in the right context”- Agreed, but every joke gets old when it’s overused, and I’m not sure it’s always being used in the right context.
Again, JMHO. Not my site, and I’m definitely not the funniest guy in the world, so who knows.
I know either Ben or Joe were in the bleachers today… did you see when Stairs hit the home run, the crowd chanted “throw it back,” the guy threw it back, and he got kicked out? Unless you were in the bathroom, the answer is yes. But what was he supposed to do? He either gets murdered by everyone around him or has to exit the game early. (btw, i was in section 37 row F i believe)
Hey Mike A, if you get a chance Scout.com has more stuff on pope and he mentions the yanks are trying to slow his delivery. yikes. if aint broke dont fix it biotch
