Game 160: Trotting out the “A” lineup

By

Betcha can’t guess who’s not in the lineup. You’ll know after the leadoff slot.

1. Johnny Damon, CF
2. Derek Jeter, SS
3. Bobby Abreu, RF
4. Alex Rodriguez, 3B
5. Hideki Matsui, LF
6. Jorge Posada, C
7. Jason Giambi, DH
8. Robinson Cano, 2B
9. Doug Mientkiewicz, 1B

And on the mound, No. 35, Mike Mussina.

I’ll now be accepting any and all complaints about my (relative) dislike of Melky.

BLAH BLAH BLAH WAAHHH WAAHH MELKY BLAH BLAH THE FUTURE BLAH WAAHHH GONNA BE BERNIE BLAH OVERRATED

  2. Brian says:

All I have to think about this is that whatever has been stated to this point about resting the guys for the first round may not be so. With the exception of Melky, who could use the time off, this is our “playing for the division” lineup. Can you imagine if Kei Igawa starts the last game to win the division?

  3. Michael T says:

As bad as Melky’s results have been in the 2nd half, his approach has looked even worse. Even though Giambi isn’t hitting, you don’t get the same sense of futility. If Damon can play centerfield even “average” I would like to see a whole lot less Melky in the playoffs.

If he plays, I can almost guarantee we will be back here moaning about another Yankees premature demis and pointing to another feeble Melky AB in a key spot as the reason.

  4. NYFan50 says:

Our Game 4 starter…I’d feel better with Hughes out there.

  5. Joseph P. says:

Hi? Ross? Yeah, it’s me. Postseason roster spot. Guess what? Yer in, dude!

  6. Mike 44 says:

Has there been any word about Ohlendorff on the playoff roster? He’s looked outstanding…

    • Mike A. says:

Ohlie is supposed to be going to the Arizona Fall League next week, and I imagine that’s still the plan. Howeva, I’d be shocked if he wasn’t in the ‘pen for good by next May.

  7. steve says:

moose or hughes ? i really would like to see hughes go instead of moose but we all know thats not gonna happen …

  8. Mike A. says:

Yo, Farnsworth out of the windup is filthy. It turned Scott Linebrink’s career around after he was waived by Houston, maybe it can work the same magic for Kyle.

  9. Joseph P. says:

Pete’s saying that Henn is the probable starter for Sunday. Really? Fucking Henn? Seems nonsensical.

  10. Mike A. says:

Ack, jeez. Guess it’s better for Mo to get it out of his system now.

  11. cjc says:

this is a totally meaningless game but the CURSE OF FRI NIGHT MY9 STRIKES AGAIN

    • Mike A. says:

I like the MY9 broadcasts. It reminds me of the good ol’ days when the games were on regular old TV for free, none of this team network garbage.

It was a simpler time, alas…

  12. cjc says:

    how bout those mets

  13. Mike A. says:

Bob Melvin brought in Joe Valverde for a 6 out save with his team up 4-2 over the Rockies, whose bandwagon I’m firmly entrenched on. If they hold on to win, the Baby Backs clinch a playoff spot.

  14. Batty says:

    Grand slam for Millar?

  15. Mike A. says:

Oh what a piece of shit. Bunt single walk-offs really grind my gears.

And now all the idiot Red Sox fans get to cheer and say “I always knew we’d do it!” less than a week after they were saying “Winning the AL East doesn’t matter, I just want the team rested.”

  16. DKA says:

You sit Giambi on the bench in the playoffs and play Mientkiewicz at first. The last thing you want is some bonehead play at first causing you a couple of runs. At this point, I’m sure he can also match “0 for 2 with a couple of walks.”

If Melky hasn’t shown you he’s this team’s centerfielder by now, you really need to take a hard look at what kind of Yankee fan you are. He is absolutely the man out there, night after night.

Congrats on nothing, Red Sox. We weren’t exactly trying to catch you here.

Congrats from a yankee fan? Ha. We wouldn’t expect it, and few are classy enough. Wire to wire baby! Congrats on second! (see that wasn’t so hard:)
