AFL Roster change

By

Eric Werdekemper will be replacing Ross Ohlendorf on the Peoria Javelinas roster. He was already in the dugout for todays game. He doesn’t have the ceiling of Olhendorf but he’s always posted good numbers since he was drafted in the 46th round of the 2005 draft. He was recently honored as the 2007 FSL Most Valuable Pitcher

I am assuming Wordekemper is relieving in AA next year, but what’s the reason for keeping his innings so low?

Can he not get the 4-5 out save? Is he projected as a situational righty?
    What’s his deal?

  2. JP says:

He was used almost exclusively as the closer this year so he was mostly a one inning pitcher. He doesn’t have the typical closer stuff but he gets the job done. He’s a guy that relies more on command than velocity. He doesn’t profile as a closer in the MLB but he has a solid two & four seam fastball, slider and splitter. The reports say that he was throwing 88-91 in his first year at Charleston but supposedly he’s added a tick or two to his fastball since then.

He’s the kind of guy that’s more of a surprise really. They didn’t expect him to be this good, so they’re just going to move him up one level at a time and seeing how he does. Gonna have to prove himself every step of the way.
