When 162 games isn’t enough

Rockies vs Padres in the tie-break game tonight. The Peavy-Fogg pitching matchup favors the Pads on paper, but with the way the season has gone, you know it won’t be that easy.

Where’s the Yankee tie-in you say? Well, the totally awesome Troy Tulowitzki wears #2 because he grew up idolizing Derek Jeter. I know, where does the time go.

Game 1 of the postseason has arrived, comment on the action here.

Plus the Rockies have Ramon Ortiz, who is the winner of the “Only Guy Who The Yankees Could Hit in the 2002 ALDS” Award.

  2. Greg G. says:

Oh, Mike…you did not just comment that Tulowitski idolized Derek Jeter when he was growing up. Please tell me you meant: “…he wears number 2 because he idolized Mike Gallego and Wayne Tolleson when he was growing up.”

    • Mike A. says:

I wish it weren’t true. Hard to believe there’s people playing in the bigs now who grew up idolizing guys like Jeter, A-Rod and Pedro.

Tulo wasn’t even 11 years old when Jeter made the bigs! That’s nuts.

if i hafta hear this announcer call mike mussina an “Ace” one mroe time i may break my tv… also.. jake peavy is to Ace as Trevor hoffman is to Closer. nuff said

  4. Marc says:

    these announcers suck..

  5. Mike A. says:

Man, did LaTroy Hawkins always separate his hands so early in his delivery like that?

Bud Black has to go to Heath Bell for 2 innings here. There’s no time to screw round with the Doug Brocails and Kevin Camerons and Cla Merediths of the world.

Even with that little bobble last inning, I wouldn’t be surprised if this game pushed Tulowitzki past Braun for ROY. He’s been great in what is arguably the biggest game in franchise history.

  6. Steve T says:

Boy, did Holliday pick a bad time to come in on a fly ball. Yikes, that may cost them the game.

  7. Batty says:

    …when 9 innings isn’t enough!

  8. Marc says:

wow veryone imagine the season where your in 12th inning of a decisive game for your seaso and jorge julio is pitching. id cry.. why even play?

  9. Adam says:

Why are they celebrating? Holliday is out.

  10. Eric Schultz says:

Weird that the ump hesitated as if waiting for Holliday to get tagged or touch the plate again before making the call, and then called him safe anyway.

  11. Ben K. says:

I think the ump was waiting to see if Barrett held on to the ball. He thought Holliday touched the plate but there was a tag beforehand. Had Barrett held on, Holliday is out.

No one on the Pads put up much of an argument, and the replays were inconclusive.

  12. Pete says:

Wow I hate TBS, is this what i have to look forward to? it looks like im listening to the alds on the radio. Oh sweet sex in the city is on….
