Yep, he's a real leadoff hitter type and looks impressive.

An outfield with Gardner in CF and Melky in LF would be aces defensively but Melk's a bit too weak for a corner bat. Unless you're one of those who believe he might still develop power as he gets older...

Scranton's Brett Gardner, who's tearing up the AFL, and is just 24, could see significant time in the Bronx OF in 2008 (with an injury - Christian could too). Gardner is a speed demon (114 career minor league steals, just 22 cs!) and plays a great CF. probably better than Melky but without the arm.

I agree. I love watching the youth. Melky and Cano's antics made games fun again. I like the idea of Miggy Cabrera at 3rd, but giving up the new guys in trade would be more of the same bad moves.

I'd like to see them get younger in the outfield too. Melky has the best all-around defense, so leave him in Center. Get a young kid who can run and gun, and use him as a fill-in guy and a late innings base-runner.

Then spend money on free-agent pitching and hope for the best. When Giambi (the biggest goat ever) goes away, spend his money on a real 1st baseman.

anyone else sorta happy that at least next year we'll have alot of youth playing all the time. I love the vets and they need to stay but something about younger players and their electricity seems to set a standard that older guys can't get anymore.

Anyway lets start campaigning for duncan at 1st, he's got alot of potential and needs the chance to shine. I heard someone earlier suggest Cano to 2nd, is that a good idea, I don't know, he's young so it could work and a 2nd basemen would deffinately be easier to find.

No one is really wrong here about A-Rod. He WAS the best offensive 3rd baseman in the AL over his Yankee tenure. He WAS also one of the biggest disappointments to Yankee fans over that same period. As a season ticket holder who sits just behind 3rd base, I was both impressed by his consistent athleticism, and underwhelmed by his ability to rise to the big occasions. When he did go above and beyond, it usually ended up unifying the other team more than it ever helped the Yankees win games. It was fighting with Tek in Boston, or trying to sissy-swat a ball away at first, or yelling “Mine!” at an opposing player. I do not pass any judgment on those acts except to say they all pissed off the opponents and unified their teams. He seems to have that effect everywhere he goes. Remember the “kids” in Texas who called him the “cooler” because he always cooled off a hot streak. He’s the same guy, different year, different color uniform.

Here’s his legacy: one of the greatest players to ever play, and was eventually boo’d mercilessly by every crowd he ever tried to win endear himself to.

The Yankees must put a swift end to the overpaid, over hyped years of A-Rod and Giambi and get back to guys who want to be Yankees. Those are the guys who get cheered and beloved at Yankee Stadium. Bloated payrolls guarantee nothing. Stats guarantee nothing. (by the way Jersey, Arod’s 2006 season was crap except on paper and everyone who actually watched those games knows it). And Lowell could replace A-Rod’s average production on paper. But haven’t we pushed enough paper since 2000? Time to go after grit and drive more than the lazy superstars other teams throw away. My two cents.

I understand on the surface the relationship appears to be over.....but the more you dig, the more I believe there is still a chance A-Rod remains a Yankee. I would say that right now it's 40/60 on him remaining a Yankee....which puts me in the minority. Both sides need each other.....

Again, if it's really over I wish A-Rod the best. I've been to most of the games he's played in NY and he's never taken a night off. He busted it every night, and produced on most nights...which is all you can ask for from a player.

As Jersey said above, I think Boras is just trying to keep the bidding up now that the Yankees are out of it. Without the Yankees to fuel the bidding war, he realizes he has to work harder. No one has to fear being outbid by Cashman at this point.

As someone pointed out earlier (sorry, I can't remember who), I think it's clear that A-Rod had no intention of returning to the Yankees. If he did, he (and Boras) would have waited till the last possible moment to opt out -- thereby ensuring he had driven the Yankees as high as he could get them to go. The fact that he did it with ten days left on the clock indicates he wanted to move on no matter what. Boras' comments after the fact are just spin-doctoring.

you are embarrassing yourself.

and i don't see why 2006 is relevant. the Red Sox are better now.

the competition is stiffer. the Yankees will need to replace 2007 A-Rod just to compete with the Sox next year. in other words, the Yankees will NOT be able to replace him.

or did you forget the Yankees finished behind the Sox this year?
