I didn't see Hughes throw many sliders last season... but then again i missed all his late season starts.

I'm having a very tough time deciding where i stand on the Johan Santana trade possibilty. my secert wish is that as long as he's not a Red Sox i wouldn't mind him being anywhere else I guess... i REALLY want to see the kids develop.

The Yanks seem to be drafting and stocking the system really well lately. Which is a nice change of pace for us.

I have no idea why they do it. Maybe it has something to do with there being more variations of the curveball than there are of the slider. I'm sure the fact that its less stressful on the arm plays a part.

Hughes had a great slider coming out of high school, but the Yanks didn't let him throw it until late 2006, when he crushed AA. He broke it out in tough spots with the Yanks last year.

I've been reading for several years now that the Yankees like to put their young pitchers on curveballs. Even those who are said to have great sliders out of high school / college. I know a curveball is a bit easier on the arm, but it seems a bit drastic to force a guy to shut down an effective pitch. What if the curve doesn't take and he loses the touch on the slider? Are there any articles or interviews (Nardi?) that talk about their reasons for doing this?

Charleston may have a pretty exciting rotation next year. Adam O, Ryan Pope, Zach McAllister, maybe Betances, etc...

As he climbs the ladder they'll leave him in the rotation I imagine, which is the right thing to do. Becoming a reliever is supposed to be a fall back option, not a goal. Things have changed nowadays though.

Do you see him in the rotation or the bullpen as he moves up the ladder?

The way this guy has been used screams out Ramiro Mendoza and I would take that any day. Thanks for posting these profiles on prospects that no one else really bothers mentioning.
