as far as a santana deal goes this is what I would offer:
IPK, Jackson, Horne, Miranda, Whelan, A-Gonzalez or Hilligross.

If we pull Hughes, BOS will pull Lester. I like that deal a lot more than: Lester, Lowrie, Masterson, and Crisp. Or the Mets deal with Gomez instead of F-Martinez

2009 should be exciting simply because we get to watch this guy pitch. everything i read/hear is not only very talented, but also very athletic and standing at near 7 foot tall his 98 mph fastball looks like 102 mph.

Big gample on the yankees part though and not only because he is getting surgery. i could be wrong but i think he threw a total of about 150 innings in 3 years of college - i may be wrong on the number, but i do know for sure that he threw very little in college and in his last month he was mid-80s. the loss in velocity was probably do to the arm injury, but its important to nte that there is a big risk with.

i am okay with that risk though because his ceiling could be higher than anyone else in this past year's draft

I'm more concerned, given his height and low IP in college, about Brackman's ability to consistently repeat his mechanics than I am about his recovery from TJ surgery.

"By signing the deal, Brackman agreed to let the Yanks hold four options on him (Whenever a player is sent to the minors, it uses up an option, although a player is charged a maximum of one option per year). Based on this, the Yankees can send Brackman to the minors during the 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011 seasons without incident. After those four options are used up though, they have to pass him through irrevocable waivers before sending him down."

basically if he isn't on the ML roster by 2012 he will be lost. unless they want to waste a 25 man roster spot on him. since this year is lost to surgery that gives him three years to make it to the show.

it's going to be very interesting to see how he pans out.

I'm really looking forward to see what both pitchers could do. If Humberto can make an impact his year it would be huge... especially considering what Giambi thought of him last spring.

i went back and read about Brackman's contract (which i still dont fully understand). so he has 4 options - can they use more than 1 per year?
assuming he's in the minors the next 4 years, it means he HAS to be with the ML club all year or get passed through waivers? so in 2012, he's either with the Big club all year or is dropped through waivers (and likely to sign with another team)?

he better have his shit together by then or they'll have to carry dead weight on the ML team - a huge waster of a 25-man roster spot. that could really suck. and since the guy is super tall and will miss the whole 08 season, he might not find his groove until 2015. the clock is ticking...

I read somewhere (I think it was BA's Top 10 chat) that the Yanks will use him as a reliever first just to get him back out there. Once he's ready they'll move him back into the rotation and see what happens. There's no room in Scranton's or Trenton's rotation for him anywho.
