Yankees VP Hank Steinbrenner said his team was still in the hunt for Johan Santana.
Steinbrenner said ESPN’s report that the Yankees pulled their offer was untrue. “There wasn’t an official offer anyway. You can’t withdraw something that wasn’t there,” Steinbrenner said. “There was no official offer on the table at this time.” According to Steinbrenner, there has been some dialogue between his club and the Twins. “It’s still in the deciding process,” he said. “We’re still discussing it. There’s still a little talk back and forth.”

so much for that.

Steinbrenner said reports that the Yankees recently withdrew a formal offer to the Twins are not true.

but c’mon, this deal is not dead until it happens. and Minny is going to call up Hank before he trades him to see if the Yanks will give up more.

It is stupid to criticize a 21 year old after 13 starts , mostly without his leg drive….but stupid people say stupid things……..that’s why they aren’t running a MLB team

i said it was dumb to criticize Hughes for his first 13 starts.

there is this strange idea that elite starters spring into the majors fully formed at age 21 and that is simply not the case.

That being said, I’m still kind of confused as to how the pitching is supposed to set up amongst the BIG THREE with their limited pitch counts. Can they honestly pitch an entire season, and perhaps the playoffs, with a 160-180 innings cap? If so, how would it be accomplished – skip starts once a month; out after 6? Sounds kinda shaky, and we may have to be looking more towards ’09 rather than ’08.
