For those that read Peter Abe's work this will look familiar but...I’m pretty sure that in the back of everyone’s mind they know Scott Patterson should be in that bullpen. It’s almost like people are scared to let him start out in the pen because of Edwar. The difference between the two? Edwar can’t command his fastball. You can have the best trick pitch in the history of baseball but if you can’t command your fastball you will not have any sustained success. I have said this again and again, but I’ll keep repeating it…fastball command is the single most important skill a pitcher can possess.

We know how this will play out….Bruney won’t throw strikes, he will get bood. Patterson will keep commanding his fastball while striking lots of guys out and not giving up hits and he will replace Bruney at some point.

Why chance blowing a couple early season games that may come back to haunt them when you knew all along that Patterson was going to do what his track record suggests…THROW STRIKES AND GET OUTS.

I can just see the bases loaded walk from Bruney in a big situation already, he has been missing the plate his entire career, it isn’t going to suddenly change. Ok, rant over. Sorry.

Good stuff, he's legit. Go compare his numbers from last year to Andy Pettitte's.

Josh Schmidt, really really good a few years ago with Staten Island. Pitched last year with Tampa and pitching, I think, decently in minor camp this year. Not a big prospect, but could be sniffing the bigs in two more years?

The Yanks are not going to waste Joba's bullpen innings on relatively worthless long reliever innings. He's in the pen to pitch in high-leverage situations. Getting three innings of work when the starter struggles doesn't count.

With ALL the "longmen" struggling, it looks more-n-more like Joba will fill that role. It make SO MUCH more sense then sending him down to switch back to starting half way though the season. Use him as your first spot-starter ALL year. 140inn each for Joba, Hughes, IPK, Moose. That's 560in, with 40 more to spread across a 7th starter and the rest of the 'pen.

Rivera, Olhendorf 8th, Farnsworth, Hawkins, Patterson, Traber, Bruney
