Basic math skills recommended, but not required to work at ESPN
Posted by: Mike A. in Asides. Tagged: Horrendously RetardedCheck this out: four out of five ESPN analysts think that all the teams in baseball will combine to post an above-.500 record. This isn’t rocket science, it’s adding and subtracting, but apparently that’s too much to ask. Did you catch Olney saying ”Tom Gorzelanny is what he is; Paul Maholm is the interesting guy on that staff” the other day on BBTN? Ridiculous.

I took that as Olney saying, “We know Gorzelanny is pretty good. Maholm is someone we’ve been interested in who has shown recent promise.” I can definitely see how it wouldn’t be interpreted that way, but that was my take.
Brian I took at that way too but when you say that on BBTN, you have to expect the worse. I actually like Olney, but when you work for ESPN and make a statement on BBTN that can be interpreted either way, it’s usually going to be the negative due to the constant ignorance of baseball on that show.
They did the same “league above .500″ thing last year. Apparently they don’t see the relationship where one team winning means another team is losing. They are just god awful — I don’t even watch BBTN anymore because it’s just stupid.
The presence of Harold Reynolds is sorely missed on BBTN.
