He has a cap of presumably 150 innings this year which would allow him to go 180 innings in 2009 and be fully unleashed (I drool at the thought) in 2010 when he will be prepared to go 200+ innings. If he is limited to the bullpen this season he will accumulate anywhere near 150 innings thus stunting his development as a starting pitcher. If he pitches 100 innings (basically irresponsibly abused) out of the bullpen this season after pitching 116+ innings last season, he will be in the same boat and be capped in that 140-150 innings range in 2009. And that my good Yankee friend is why Joba Chamberlain needs to be in the rotation. People seem to disregard the notion that starting pitching improves a bullpen.
