I covered yesterday's Thunder game and I second Simon B's comment as it is an odd time to question Tabata's power. Tabata had two doubles... on pitches on the outside corner... which landed DEEP into the right field corner.

That's power. It may not show up in the box score, but Tabata was just letting his talent flow yesterday, swinging at pitches he could handle and mashing them into right field like that show great maturity for a 20 year-old.

I am in the crowd who believes those deep doubles will soon become slow trots around the bases.

Oh, but it gets better. Just think of the Post headlines:

"Pope Excommunicates Visiting Red Sox"
"Jesus Calls Pope's Perfect Game"

And, during interleague play:

"Pope Touches 'Em All"

Okay, that last one may have been over the line.

Until Grant Duff gets his control squared away, I think he's better in the bullpen.

Was he a converted pitcher along with Dunn?

i think that the resurgence of the (Yankee) farm system plays a large part in the general interest as well as (here we go with it again) the internet and the ease of accessible info, broadcasts and stats. These players are just a click away and one can virtually find info, articles and interviews on any number of sites.

I'll plug myself here and urge everyone to check out pinstripesplus.com where we're doing articles and interviews on virtually all of the minor league Yankee systems daily, myself covering the Riverdogs for what couldnt be a better season.
/shameless plug

have you seen Timlin Mike A. com'on lets not go that far , plus remember right now it's not about his K's it's about building up arm strength after TJS. A positive from tonight for Melancon is his improvement in 2IP he allowed 1 hit and had a 3:3 GO/AO. Around mid June you'll see a different Melancon.

Considering he had two doubles today, it seems like an odd time to ask this question.

Am I worried? No, not really. I don't think low power numbers would be very indicative for longterm performance considering hamate removal saps a guy's power for over a year sometimes.

Seems to me that the average Yankees fan's knowledge and awareness of our Minor League prospects is higher now than i can ever recall.
I guess that has something to do with recent infusion of young talent into Major League team, which gives the average fan the idea that the future (Yankees) might very well be the present (Minor Leaguers) and that it's worthwhile to start following them now...
It's the change in front office philosophy that brought about this steady rise in interest in the Ajaxs & Monteros of the world.
