Okay, so where’s the real lineup Joe?

So wait, that’s really it? Let me get this straight: you’re sitting three very good lefty batters in Abreu, Giambi and a surging Robbie Cano against a mediocre southpaw in Oliver Perez, but you started them against a premium lefty in Johan Santana yesterday after they played 3 games in 3 different stadiums in a span of 48 hours. Okay cool, that makes sense.

Wait, no it doesn’t. Whatever, let’s hope Perez has one of those games.

whozat says:

Well…wouldn’t you want your A lineup against their A pitcher? Besides…Perez’s platoon split is WAY bigger than Santana’s. Perez has been much harder on lefties.

whozat says:

Though…that is a HEINOUS defensive right side of the infield.

Steve says:

Could have been worse. He could have said ‘Hiney”.

Or Hiney-ous.

DP says:

HAHA thats exactly the word I used to describe the lineup when I first saw it.

Ivan says:

Oliver Perez has given the Yankee hitters fits since he became a met. Another reason why he sit his lefties is that Perez is tougher on lefties than Santana.

I too would of sit some lefties out, like a Giambi or Cano . Personally I wouldn’t sit Abreu because he works counts and a pitcher like Perez can certainly throw alot of pitches.

I understand the descion here by Joe here. I don’t mind it.

Except Bobby is 0-10 with 4 walks lifetime against Perez.

Ivan says:

Well put it this way, I will sit two lefties but not all three.

Steve says:

This is an argument to PLAY Abreu?

The walks are a function of Perez being wild, everyone draws walks off him when he loses the strike zone. The fact that he’s 0-10 is much more telling of how comfortable he is facing him.

No, it is an argument to sit him. The person I was responding to sais he would have played Abreu. Personally, I like the decision. Cano is in a groove, but you dont want him to come up against a tough lefty and lose that, Giambi had a tough day yesterday, and Bobby cant hit Perez.

Steve says:

Sorry, I misunderstood. I happen to agree with you, look at my post a few spots down with Perez’s splits.

Chucky says:

Gotta tell you I don’t like the idea of sitting Robby right now. Looks like his bat was finally coming around, Joe should have kept him in the lineup!

marc ack says:

1st girardi keeps showing faith in farnsworthless, now look at todays lineup !?! Hope Hank fires him today!

Ben C says:

im not gonna lie.. i think cone is money in the tv booth

Steve says:

I like sitting all 3.

Giambi has always had trouble against hard throwing lefties.

Cano is just breaking out his slump, the last thing he needs is a tough lefty to screw him up again.

Abreu has yet to get a hit off Perez.

And as was mentioned earlier, Perez’s splits are pretty stark.

Steve says:

Oh, and one more reason to like this lineup. We have one HELL of a bench today. I have a feeling we’ll be using it by the 5th inning.

Manimal says:

Shit why is rasner so suckish now.

Ben K. says:

The better question, Manimal, is “how was Rasner so good in May?” This is far less of a surprise than what we he did during his first four starts last month.

Manimal says:

seriously. Michael Kay just said something about his cutter being flat. If thats the case send him down for a couple of starts to work on it.

Manimal says:

I’m starting to think maybe the whole yankee team should tape their pinky and ring finger together. It works for Farnsworth…

Mike A. says:

Sorry for the technical issues folks, all should be well now.

Manimal says:

Which issues…. I didnt see anything wrong?

Mike A. says:

The site wasn’t loading for a while, but the mobile version was still working. It was down for about a half-hour on my end.

Manimal says:

Well, he got out of it somehow.

Mike A. says:

Wilson Betemit has a 66 OPS+ for his career vs LHP.

Mike A. says:

Nice at-bat there, even though he K’ed.

Manimal says:

Wow the yankees are making him look like cy young.

Jamal G. says:

You have to admit, when this dude is on, he’s on.

Mike A. says:

It doesn’t help the Yanks that the lineup is Damon-Jeter-ARod-Posada and 5 pitchers.

Manimal says:

Yeah doesnt mean the yankees have to look like the jv high school team vs the varsity team.

Jamal G. says:

Just when the Detroit Tigers were starting to get hot they get some bad news, Magglio Ordonez is going to the 15-Day DL. Over/Under at five games under .500 when he returns? I’d say over, their pitching is just horrid and now they have even less of an offense to bludgeon a team with.

Jamal G. says:

Oliver Perez hit 96-MPH in this AB to Melky Cabrera, yeah, this is not looking fun.

Captain Wiley says:

Horne didn’t make it through the first. Hopefully Mr Jennings will tell us shortly that it was just a bad outing.

Jamal G. says:

I’ll watch the game, see if the broadcasters say anything.

Mike A. says:

32 pitches, 12 strikes. Yanks have a rule that the pitcher leaves the game if he tops 30 pitches in an inning.

Manimal says:

Chad said he was shaking his hand every pitch.

Mike A. says:

That’s not good. Hopefully he was still getting good velocity on his pitches.

Loss fo Control = elbow, loss of velocity = shoulder.

Jamal G. says:

Radio broadcaster did say he left the game due to an injury, he did not specify.

Mike A. says:

Kay: “Then the rains came. For a while it looked like they were going to pair up animals in Pittsburgh”

30 seconds of silence

Singleton: “Heh”

Ivan says:

I can live with Rasner walking Reyes and getting to Castillo.

Newman says:

Are we really already committing Rasner to a start against Boston? I guess there’s literally no one else that can start - Karstens? Ugh

Manimal says:

He has done well past couple of starts.

Mike A. says:

Against Josh Beckett no less. At least he’s got a 5.87 ERA in 10 career starts vs the Yanks.

Manimal says:

Does that include the playoffs?

Jamal G. says:

Outside of those two games we’ve pretty much been a thorn in that dude’s side.

Mike A. says:

I doubt it. I got the info from B-Ref’s splits.

Friday’s game isn’t a playoff game though, is it? ;)

Ivan says:

Please Rass don’t walk Castillo

Mike A. says:

Well that ball wasn’t exactly tattooed. Nice range by Jeter though.

Manimal says:

betemit is an idiot, what the hell is jeter doing fielding a ball on the right side of the infield.

Ivan says:

Betemit is a not a idiot, is just that he has minimal range.

Ivan says:

The only way Castillo gets hits

Newman says:

Anyone else notice the Snigh broadcast is a full pitch ahead of the YES?

Manimal says:

areyou serious? Check TBS too.

Mike A. says:

Really, they’re almost synced up for me. YES is a little behind, but not a full pitch.

Mike A. says:

Nice job limiting the damage. Let’s try to actually get a baserunner against Perez now.

Manimal says:

rasner needs to sit in a video room and see what is happening. What is different from his first couple of starts and now.

Newman says:

It’s easy, the league has caught up to him combined with the fact that he’s not good. You don’t need to go to the video room, that’s the answer

Yankeejim says:

Am I the only one that wants them to get Sidney Ponson away from Chamberlain?

Mike A. says:

Maybe Joba’s mentoring him.

LiveFromNewYork says:

Joba’s saying Sidney there is a high rate of alcoholism on the reservation and I managed to rise above it. You can beat this thing bro. Stop being fat drunki and stupid, son.

Mike A. says:

25 strikes, 9 balls for Perez? Oof.

Jamal G. says:

Brett Gardner was out by a step on a chopper to the third basemen…he was playing on the grass.

ansky says:

this is the same perez mets fans see every five days right?
cuz i could have sworn he was posting a 6+ ERA

Jamal G. says:

No, he is very inconsistent. He has games like this then follows them up with games like he had vs. the M’s. That’s the reason why Mets fans hate him so much.

E-ROC says:

This dope is no-hitting the Yankees.
