“He might stay there all year”
ByChad Jennings comes through in the clutch again, running down Yanks’ Farm Director Mark Newman for a quick chat. The one item that will surely get everyone fired up is that Newman believes Mark Melancon will remain with Double-A Trenton the rest of the season. CJ hit the nail on the head, this is the way guys are supposed to develop, not everyone flies through the system in a year like Joba. Have patience. One Huston Street in two years is better than one Craig Hansen now.

I believe last year Newman said that there was no way Joba would be in the majors in 2007, so take this with a grain of salt…
If so, they probably have to trade for a reliever.
Well we have Dave Robertson, who once he sharpens up his control a little bit can help this yankee team.
There are plenty of good candidates to pitch the 6th and 7th inning, but the 8th inning is still up in the air…/Farnsworth.
If I recall correctly, Newman also said that McCutchen would probably stay at AA all year this year too.
To clarify, on May 15th, Newman said that McCutchen wasn’t going to AAA any time soon. McCutchen started for the S/WB Yanks on May 24th.
I don’t the Yankees were necessarily counting on a guy in AA to hold down the bullpen fort in the second half of season. Commentors on a blog may have been, but the Yankees probably weren’t.
In other words, no big whoop and, like the post says, I’d rather have Huston Street than Craig Hansen.
Bull… that is idiotic.. melancon is older then Hansen and from what I hear a more finsihed prodcut. Hansen went up the same yr. he was drafted, months later.. wasn’t Melalncon drafted 2yrs ago?
stupid over cautious standard Yankee crap……
Uh, Hansen’s like, 18 months older than Melancon.
There’s nothing over-cautious about letting a pitcher get at least, I dunno, 100 IP under his belt in the minors.
Mike, this guy is a troll. Don’t waste your time.
Melancon was drafted 2 years ago, but he only pitched a few pro innings before having Tommy John surgery. He missed all of last year. So this season is really all the minor league experience he has.
No need to rush him…….
Hell, all the hubabaloo over an 8th inning guy………..some may remember when guys like Goose, Lyle and others pitched 3 innings for a save
…….but I digress!
While I agree a better “set up man” is needed, there is no need to force a young promising player into a position he is not ready for. Plus, if I had my way the Yanks would try and pick up a lefty to “try” and fill that bill, this year….
have you guys seen the new gameday?? haha best day of my life. It’s 3D and pretty darn cool
Nice, but I still think CSTV’s Game Tracker for college games blows it out of the water.
yeah i agree.
no way! I gotta check that out.FYI anyone with an iPod touch or iPhone, the app store comes out tomorrow and there is a MLB app that has gameday and even MLB tv on it.
HTC Touch Pro for the win!

yeah I forgot K Rod did not get the memo on the yankee way a few yrs ago. after barely pitching in the minors or Zumaya 2 yrs ago..
do not tell me about the zumaya injury he had something fall on his shoulder while having his family get away from the so cal. wild fires..
the yankee way is the snail way, when you treat all talent the same regardless if some of the guys are special talents or not…
K-Rod had 318 innings of minor league ball under his belt before being promoted. Zumaya had 402. So quit spouting your misinformation.
Haha. Can’t argue with that.
BTW how long did huston street spend in the minors??
I think it ws a very short stay…
And, just to get you here, Huston Street did not undergo Tommy John surgery.
Yeah, Huston Street. One guy in the history of the universe had a successful career after spending like, a month in the minors.
Street was drafted in 2004 and pitched big innings for the big club in 2005. he is only 24 today.. yeah they rushed him also…
all yankee fans are DR.s and pitching coach’s I forgot.. that is curious because there pitching has sucked for about 5 yrs…
What a cop out. I present you with evidence that shows that you’re wrong, and you come back with a snarky and inane remark, considering you yourself are trying to be a pitching coach — nay, a director of minor league operations — in suggesting calling up Melancon.
All Yankee fans are from the Dominican Republic? What did the pitching coach forget? Where is the location pitching has “sucked for about 5 yrs”?
Lol, Dominican Republicans………….good one Rich!
Melancon’s thrown so many innings this year, wouldn’t he have to be used sparingly anyway?
kinda sucks cause i was hoping to see him in the Bronx this year, but Robertson and/or Cox should also be able to help.
The party line on him is that he’s Mo’s replacement. Mo is defying age and time this year and pitching like vintage Mo. No need to rush MM. I concur with his development plan. Proceed.
