Imagine if Jeter were having a good season

By

Derek Jeter is the American League’s leading All Star vote-getter right now. In the latest voting results, Jeter’s tally comes in at 1,988,251 votes, a few thousand more than David Ortiz. Imagine how Jeter would be doing if he weren’t hitting .279/.336/.379 with 9 double plays.

In other All Star news, Joe Mauer has rightfully moved past Jason Varitek, and Ian Kinsler now finds himself just 160,000 votes behind Dustin Pedroia. I really think Yankee fans should stop voting for Robinson Cano and start supporting Kinsler. It’s the only way to unseat Pedroia. Youkilis leads at first with Giambi in third, 600,000 votes behind.

9 GIDP’s for Jeter? How nice of you to mention just his June stats ;)

Interestingly enoungh among those top vote getters you really can’t make a case that any of them are actually having a better season than Jeter

Wow, I didn’t even notice that. No one in the top 5 is slugging over .400. Even more amazingly (maybe, idk), not a single AL short stop has a positive WPA. The only ones slugging over .400 also happen to combine for a .293 OBP.

I guess my vote would have to go to Michael Young (not that I care enough to vote), considering he has a positive context-neutral WPA.

What a terrible year for AL short stops…. maybe Tejada will play for the AL if he finishes second.

Yeah, seriously. AL shortstops suck this year. He certainly shouldn’t be the overall top vote getter, but it’s not like I could make a real case against him being voted in as the starting SS.

I voted 25 times already so i’m finished. After about 15 votes, I put aside my Cano and Posada biases and started voting Mauer and Kinsler. Pedroia shouldn’t even be within 100 miles of Yankee Stadium come all star break.

Now 1st base. That’s a toughie. Giambi certainly deserves it. I’d rather see Morneau there over Youkilis. Who’s the spoiler here, Giambi or Morneau? Regardless, one of them needs to take the place of Youkilis.

Off Topic and also late but R.I.P George Carlin. Funny guy.

  6. iYankees says:

    Ian Kinsler deserves that spot.

  7. Mike W. says:

I have voted Morneau and Kinsler with all my votes so far. They deserve it.

  8. tommiesmithjohncarlos says:

I also voted for Kinsler, Morneau, and Mauer.

I know that no one will read this comment (except maybe Ben) but I think that allowing people to vote 25 times is simply ridiculous. Where in life do people get to vote more than once for anything. And why 25? Why not 100? 1,000? Fan voting is not the way the All-Star team should be picked.
