Rumors, rumors everywhere nor any drop of truth

PeteAbe reports that the Yanks are not interested in a catcher or Barry Bonds but are still hoping to land Jarrod Washburn. Jon Heyman writes that the Yanks are “considering” Bronson Arroyo, won’t be able to pry A.J. Burnett from the Jays and said no to a trade with Seattle involving both Melky Cabrera and Brett Gardner. He also says those Robinson Cano rumors have not an ounce of truth to them. So there you go. Have fun.

Seattle makes me laugh. Reports are they wanted Igawa in a basic salary dump. Yanks were interested. Then they wanted Melky and Brett. Ballsy!

Pretty sure the rumors were that was the trade the YANKEES wanted. The Mariners wanted to add Vidro in.
Teams ask for stuff from the Yankees they would never ask from some other team. Seattle is insane.

I’d do cocaine, heroin, and mescaline if it would keep me from having to listen to nonsense posts about deals for guys like Felix Hernandez who Seattle would never, ever, ever trade.

Half the people here were calling to trade Cano during the first half of the year. Now that he started hitting, everyone is back to their senses.
I wouldn’t be so sure of that. This is Felix Hernandez’s third year of Major League service. He has three more years after this season and he is only 22-years-old. Meaning at the end of the 2011 season, he will be a free agent. That’s right, at age 25, Felix Hernandez will be a free agent. Oh boy!

To everyone who’s advocating trading IPK for Fuentes: The asking price is apparently AARON FUCKING HEILMAN. If we gave them IPK for Fuentes, that would be like buying a Big Mac with an out-of-print $1,000 bill and not asking for change.
We should do it then. Aaron Heilman was once a highly touted prospect … just like Ian Kennedy!
Yeah but IPK can’t pitch the 8th inning. And what’s more important? A quality start or a bridge to your closer?
On the subject of rumors, Jayson Stark over at ESPN says the Yanks are kicking the tires on Adam Dunn, but Cincy’s asking price has been too high. A familiar refrain.
Well, the asking price SHOULD start high. We’ll see what the price is on July 30-31.

i’m not very interested in Dunn long term b/c he doesn’t play defense and will be paid like a superstar, but as a rental he would be perfect.
Dunn is the perfect - PERFECT- DH. I’d trade for him in a heartbeat.

Washburn is only interesting because he’s virtually free. If he costs anything of substance (and, even for all their struggles, Melky and Gardner are still “of substance”), then pass.
I like Washburn, but I’ll ride out with IPK, Karstens, and the Mexican Gangster before I pay for Washburn.
except that no one wants melky. no one. so if you have someone else who can play for him and produce equal or greater than then why not trade him if you can find someone ho will take him
like you said, no one wants him. he is more valuable to us as a center fielder right now than he could possibly be as trade bait.

and despite the 1,000,000 posts on this blog that Cashman was an idiot for not calling up Gardner earlier in the season, Gardner doesn’t really look like he’s ready to be handed CF in the middle of a pennant race.
Melky is bad, but so far, Gardner is worse. much worse.
no, i am not saying that he will never improve. but RIGHT NOW, trading Melky and sticking Gardner in CF would be a bad, bad move.

The Washburn deal is only intriguing as a salary dump, if it means giving up real players, then it’s not really worth it. Washburn isn’t that good, he’s just a good pick-up if its only money, and if we got to dump Igawa at the same time.
BRONSON ARROYO seriously, not only has the guy only posted 1 season with 20+ inning and an ERA under 4.00, he has an ERA in the 5’s this year, and that’s not even the worst part. The worst part is he’s owed 9.5 Million next year, yeah Bronson Arroyo, and even better he’s owed 10 Million in 2010. You trade for Arroyo you get him for 2 more years at a redic salary

Given his numbers last season, I don’t think he can graduate to Type A status. Besides…the system could REALLY use some positional talent that’s near-ish to the majors. If we can package Kyle and someone like Mcallister for an interesting AA/AAA position player, that’d be pretty exciting.
The way the market is, why include McAllister. I say ask for a straight up deal for a AA/AAA position prospect, and work from there.
Obviously that’s what you start with. But I was trying to come up with something that another team might actually bite on.

Since “reluctant to meet their demands” seems to be every buyers theme right now I’m going to hold my judgment of Mr. Cashman until the smoke clears. All I know is that the 2008 Yankees are 3 games back of a playoff spot on July 25th and they have needs and the resources to fill those needs. Here is to hoping something gets done.
The Yanks have the needs and the resources, but you’re completely missing the other half of the puzzle. The pieces available don’t fill those needs. The Yanks can’t magically conjure up a deal for a top-line starter or a power-hitting outfielder (…well…maybe not this one…) if other teams aren’t interested in making those players available for a reasonable price.
Now that all depends of what your idea of a reasonable price is and the players you’re talking about. If you’re overvaluing your farm system then yes there might be nothing out there.
Have you ever seen the lottery commercial with the couple looking out the window when money drops out of the sky? The girl wants to get some money, but the guy wants to wait for more then a crowd comes in and takes it all. Here to hoping the Yankees are not that guy.

I can give you a list but you know it by now and we would argue very name because we view the Yankees farm system and what’s out there differently.
All I’m saying this that I understand about looking towards the future, but there are no guarantees in this game. Earlier this season is a perfect example of that. If the cup is in front of you take it you never know when you’re going to get another chance.
No no. I want the list of players who are available and who would drastically alter this team for the better. I’m not talking about some Jarrod Washburn fourth-starter type who could be had for the right price. I’m talking about an impact pitcher who could lead the Yanks to the playoffs. List ‘em. I’m just curious to see who you think is available.
Some advocate a trade for trades sake.
I have not seen anyone name one player I would trade for…that is, with any realistic chance of obtaining them. Conversely, there are many OF out there, but at what price. 27/08??

Well I didn’t think that an “impact pitcher” was or is out there. I was ok with mixing and matching with the farm system and anything else that was cast-off. Until Hughes came riding in on his white horse or they got Wang back.
I guess looking around at the names Washburn is as good as everyone else at holding the fort, but he can’t lead the Yanks out of a paper bag.
It’s not just about getting an impact player it’s about getting the right pieces. When the Yanks got Hayes and Fielder they were both pass their primes, but they were the right fit.
I still think if you account for price and fit Nady is still the best option. His price seems to be coming down.
I also like Marte, but I agree with you that at what it’s going to cost they are better off with the bullpen as is.
I don’t get why Bonds isn’t signed.
His off-field stuff won’t matter in New York. The papers will write a million articles and nobody in the clubhouse will care and it won’t affect anything.

It seems like the whole league has decided that they don’t care if he hits 30 HR and plays for free, they still won’t sign him.

In baseball, none that I can think of.
But Kobe Bryant played while not just under indictment but actually in the midst of his court proceedings on a much, much more serious charge, if you recall.
Oh yeah, and Jamal Lewis played most of the 2004 season under federal indictment on drug charges. He pleaded guilty to a lesser charge during the season and served jail time in the offseason; he was suspended two games the next year.
In neither case did the world spin off its axis. And remember, Bonds isn’t due in court until next March.
