Hal talks about … everything

Game 86: Time to do our best Tampa Bay impression

For those of you whiling away this July 3 afternoon looking for a Yankee fix, Barry Bloom, MLB.com’s national reporter, totally has you covered. He sat down for a very extensive chat with Hal Steinbrenner this week, and the resulting article is a tour de force on the everything from the new stadium to the state of Yankee economics to their approach to free agents in what may be relatively leaner times for the Yankees. It’s a good, long read for a holiday eve, and it delves extensively into an issue surrounding the new stadium that we’re tackling this weekend.

“I see in the papers all the time about the 180 Legends Seats that are so expensive,” he said. “But they don’t talk about the fact that half of the seats in the stadium are $45 or less; that the entire top level is $20-$25 seats, and the bleacher seats are $12. We wanted to make sure that the average family can afford to go there and that’s the way it’s going to be.”

i have to say, this makes me feel a little better. at least they dont have plans to jump all the regular tickets prices up right away.

Why is Melky in the lineup. WHY.

    • Ben C

DOES GIRARDI NOT GET IT? MELKY IS NOT GOOD AGAINST LEFTIES. PUTTING HIM IN BECAUSE ITS RIGHTY LEFTY INSTEAD OF GARDNER DOES NOT MAKE SENSE. AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

      • whozat

Yeah. Gardner’s one hit in the last three days makes him a certain better choice.

        • Ben C

yeah, and melky’s 0 for his last 2300412093098123 makes him the right start in the first game of the biggest stretch of games so far this season

            LMAO, good one.

          • whozat

Ah…so, the guy with one MLB hit and one MLB walk is a better bet?

            • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike A.

If you’re going to base this on each player’s last last three games, then yes, Gardner’s one hit, one walk & two stolen bases is better than Melky’s 0.000 OPS.

  • E-ROC

Girardi needs to stop smoking that Melky ganja and let Gardner play.

If the Yankees don’t beat the snot out of Lester tonight I will not be happy.

    • nmc

also, small sample size, obviously, but Melky is 2 for 2 off Lester. that’s like, better than any other game he’s had all year.

    • Ivan

To be fair, Lester has pitch well this year.

read Mr. Hal….the Yanks wont be spending like they used to….they are seeking a profit, like all of the rest of MLB…..welcome to the world of the self imposed salalry cap…….this explains why they wont spend over the top for any talent, why they didn’t make a splash in the international market, and why they will be missing the playoffs this year…..not necessarily a terrible thing, but the NYY will not dominate baseball as they did in the late 90’s….this is the Commissioners dream come true……unfortunately, it is Theo’s dream come true also……
