Scranton’s pen implodes

The Top 10 Jason Giambi Mustache Facts. I laughed so hard after reading number four that I couldn’t breathe.

High-A Tampa had their doubleheader with St. Lucie rained out. This is their last series of the year with St. Lucie, home or away, so it looks like they have to play a pair of doubleheaders over the final two days of the four game set. Sucks for them.

Low-A Charleston (3-1 loss to  Lexington)
Abe Almonte: 0 for 2 – left the game in the 5th for an unknown reason
Austin Krum: 0 for 1 – replaced Almonte, then left in the 7th for an unknown reason
Matt Morris: 0 for 1 – replaced Krum, but he stuck around for the rest of the game
Justin Snyder & Jesus Montero: both 1 for 4 - Snyder scored a run … Montero K’ed & committed a fielding error
Bradley Suttle: 0 or 4 - 5 for his last 23 … guess the hot streak’s over
Austin Romine: 0 for 2, 1 BB
Brandon Laird: 1 for 3, 1 2B, 1 K
Carmen Angelini: 0 for 3
Taylor Holiday: 2 for 3
Noel Castillo: 7.2 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 5 K, 1 WP, 11-7 GB/FB
Ryan Zink: 1.1 IP, zeroes, 2 K, 1 HB, 2-0 GB/FB

Short Season Staten Island had a scheduled off day.

The Rookie GCL Yanks were rained out as well, they play right in Tampa’s backyard after all.

Because it happened on a minor league field, I feel obligated to report it: Carl Pavano threw live batting practice off an actual mound today. He’s scheduled to do it again on Friday. (h/t Haggs)

    Ha. Thanks Mike. :)

  • Seth C.

Did you get the feeling that Almonte and Krum left because of injuries or a trade?

    • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike A.

Injury. Those two have close to zero trade value based on how far away they are.

      • Seth C.

        Thanks. Just checking (and hoping)…

  • A.D.

    eh start for IPK

  • A.D.

Malec keeps on cruising….and Ehlers, aweful year

  • A.D.

Really Jason Jones need a call-up to AAA, he spend the year in AA last year, and was 8th in league in ERA, with other prospects, and a weak finish the Yanks put him back there, but now hes pretty much dominated AA this year, and its time to see if he can do it at AAA

    • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike A.

The time is that every team has a Jason Jones, that older fringy prospect dominating at Double-A just begging for a call-up. Most turn into nothing, some turn into Nick Blackburn.

      • A.D.

Yeah, but gotta at least give him a look at AAA, it costs you nothing, best case hes a decent back of the rotation starter that can eat inning/provide depth

        • dan

Yea they have no use for Igawa at AAA. Jones already made one start there and pitched 5 shutout, 1 hit innings. He certainly deserves a shot.

And I never realized the ridiculousness of Nick Blackburn’s control. Wow.

  • Bonos

And Ajax had a 3 for 5 day, he was awfully close to the 260s. Maybe he’s toying with AA like he did with Charleston.

Low-A Charleston (3-1 loss to Lexington)
    ————————————

and Dave WIlliams went 1 for 3

    (just throwing that out there)

  • A.D.

Any word on why Cervelli is on the DL?

  • Chip

Why not have Edwar Gonzalez or Malec give AAA a shot? They’re both about that age, I’d imagine the Yankees have to be thinking about it somewhat

    • Tim

Has anyone on the board seen these guys play? Are they true prospects or fringe?

      • Kay Sturns

the 3 trenton games i was at had edward dhing. they had him at lf alot when jose was healthy, so idk about defense, but there is less surf area in right (ys), so i assume he would be olright… he is really mashing now; move him up! swb could prolly use an outfielder, eh?

  • Malcard89

#3 is the funniest by far

    • http://yankeesetc.blogspot.com/ Travis G.

      agreed.

  • Steve A

What is the story on Noel Castillo?

  • http://thunderbaseball.wordpress.com Mashmore

Don’t know if it was mentioned elsewhere, but Ramiro Pena’s going to be playing in the Futures Game…

    • dan

He should replace Varitek on the All-Star team as well.

  • BillyBall

Evidently the Braves GM is not happy with the market for Texiera. He thought there would be more offers for Texiera. If they trade Texiera there is a good chance that he would want a 1st baseman back. Names mentioned were Casey Kotchman, and Youkilis. We do not have a top notch 1st base prospect but what would it take to get Texiera? How about trading Kennedy, Melky, Marquez or Horne and Juan Miranda. Would that get it done? He will walk at the end of the season and even though the Braves are still in contention for the NL east I believe they will take the same stance as the A’s and sell off to build for future.

    • http://www.riveraveblues.com Ben K.

Why bother? The Yanks don’t really need Teixeira right now. He doesn’t fill a glaring need, and considering that they can get him for only money in three months, why sell the farm?

      • Kay Sturns

he could push giambi to DH, but i agree wit you for the most part, ben; 3 months of some1 that will undoubtedly be a free agent is not very appealing.

        • Ivan

That would create some serious log jams.

          • Kay Sturns

True, i hope Sui gets well. we need his bat when betemit isn’t crushing balls across 126th street (shea)

  • matt k

    Any word on Aceves??

  • Manimal

Chuck Norris wishes he had a mustache like Jason Giambi.

  • nil

wow, Cubs got Harden cheaply, I wonder why the Yank could not do it

  • Yanks26

Kelvin De Leon was pinch hit for, before his first at bat in DSL. Anybody word on if he was hurt?

  • DaveM

    Maria Bartiromo has DSL :-)
