The Village People and the Y.M.C.A. live at the All Star Game

By

Love it (somehow) or hate it (as most people do), the Yankee Stadium grounds crew rendition of the Y.M.C.A. has stuck around long past its expiration date. While we’ve advocated leaving this tired routine at the old stadium next year, the Yanks have other plans. According to an industry insider, the Y.M.C.A. will get the grand treatment at the All Star Game this year. The Village People, originators of this torturous song, will be performing the song live alongside the grounds crew during the All Star Game this year. I have no words.

At like a million dollars a ticket, fans should not have to be subject to such torture

  2. Adam says:

similar to how johnny damon and mike piazza performed with Alter Bridge at the 2005 all-star game, the Village People have invited kevin youkilis, dustin pedroia and jonathan papelbon to perform alongside.

    This is embarrasing

i wonder if Cotton Eyed Joe will come out ‘from the booth’ and lend his own jivey dance moves to the all star party, too.

I still think the wave is a worse, and much more widespread phenomenon. It was happening last night when the Yankees were very much still in the game. Can we get a campaign to do something about this?

    • Relaunch says:

No, Because the bandwagon fans out number the regulars. The bandwagon people love it.

    • Ben K. says:

Oh God. I was ready to kill half the stadium when the wave started in a 2-1 game. Are the people who go to Yankee Stadium really that baseball illiterate that they have to do the wave with the Yanks batting in the 7th inning of a close game? If it’s that boring, just stay home.

      • Ben C says:

That was unbelievable.. That and half the stadium leaving before Posada’s final at-bat. YOU CANT WAIT 5 MINUTES?

Hey, at least now the All Star Game counts, right?

  8. Eric says:

Instead of the Village People, they should get the fellas from Section 39 to sing their rendition of “Why Are You Gay?” to the Red Sox fans in the stadium.

Even though I’m a purist and think all the sh*t that clutters up the experience should be removed from the game, I think that given the fact that the All Star is so over the top to begin with, it will actually be amusing to see The Village People there.

On another note, I am making every effort this season to totally ignore the scoreboard and video screen between innings and just enjoy watching the players doing their between inning on field rituals. That’s what watching a baseball game should be.

I really, really, really hate the match game especially, but that’s mainly because I can’t do it.
