You guys are succumbing to the media hype that is Favre TOO?!! Yeesh, and I thought I was safe here.
We’re not succumbing to the pressure, we’ve been known to post snip-its of non-Yankee but New York sports related news.
I’m teasing — I was just about to go to bed and I saw this on your site. Now I gotta stay up and watch the TV for updates.
Also, 2/3 of your hosts are Jets fans. And are incidentally super-psyched to have a real quarterback.
As a Packers fan, I’m torn. On the one hand, I was sad to see him retire, as I thought they had a real chance at the SB with him in 2008. That said, I was psyched to see Rodgers as well, and was firmly on the Packers side in all the drama that has occurred in the last few weeks. However, it will be really strange to see him in another uniform, although the Jets is pretty much the best I could have hoped for- out of NFC, and I get to see him every week.
Only reason I care is so I can start watching ESPN again (at least until Kruk, Phillips or Gammons show up)
By the way, why is such a big deal made over the retirement of the quarterback whos thrown the most INT’s in history? Cause John Madden told me he’s “gritty” and “a gamer” and has stubble on his face which indicates that he’s a “country boy”. I can’t stand Favre, and frankly, the way his career has been covered reminds me alot of the way ESPN has been fellating the Boston Red Sox over the past couple of years.
Don’t forget. Stubble and/or facial hair = scrappy.

Reggie’s struck out almost 300 more times than anyone in baseball history, but people still seem to love him.
Reggie’s also accumulated his fair share of nay-sayers and haters. Favre has not. He’s the media’s golden boy. Until this recent unretirement fiasco, I hadn’t heard a negative word said about the guy in the entirety of his career. Even when he threw an interception, he got a pass, with the media saying “ya gotta love Favre out there taking risks, he’s a gunslinger”.
Reggie hasn’t lost a considerable percentage of games for his teams by K’ing a little too often. Favre has single handledly “gunslinged” the Pack out of many more games than he’s been given credit for.
I’m not saying Favre is not a great player. He’s just simply not anywhere as good as he’s been given credit for being.
This is a bit of a fallacy that I have heard for a while about Favre. His interception rate matches up pretty well with all of the other quarterbacks that you might place on the list of greats ahead of him. Look at the top 15 all time interceptions-wise. Most of it is HOF’ers. Yes, Favre is 1st on the list. He is also first on the toucdowns and yards lists. The only guy that you can point to in terms of interceptions and say- he was better at protecting the ball than Favre is Montana. Of course, Montana also had 170 less touchdowns to go with his 140 less INT’s. The point is, Favre’s loose nature with the ball is something shared by many great quarterbacks, probably because most of them believe they can make every throw.
obviously it’s tough to compare across sports, but throwing an INT has a much worse effect on a football game than striking out does on a baseball game.

just saying that i don’t think your analogy is very strong.

Really? I thought that was having to read, listen, and see people bitch about how people would rather have Scott Brosius or Mike Lowell than Alex Rodriguez.
Who wouldn’t want the clutchness and hustling of Scott Brosius over that bum A-Rod? Brosius led the Yankees to glory. What has A-Rod ever done. A-Rod is just a compiler, Brosius is a proven winner.

Since Jerry Rice retired, Brett Favre has always been my favorite player in the NFL. It’ll be great to see him every Sunday now.

Favre has always been my favorite QB and Jets are my second fav team GO SKINS since I hate the Giants (but still VERY happy about the Super Bowl, NY beating Boston WOOHOO!) Getting to see Favre play every week will be an honor.
The Jets finally get an upgrade QB; too bad they didn’t draft one of the big three in this year’s draft. Kellen Clemens is not the answer.
