AP: Yanks set to open new stadium on April 16
ByMark your calendars for April 16, 2009. According to the Associated Press, on that Thursday, the Cleveland Indians and New York Yankees will play the first game at the new Yankee Stadium. The game will be long sold out before anyone really has a chance to grab tickets. According to reports, the Yanks’ preliminary schedule — subject to change — has the team opening on the road in Baltimore with stops in Kansas City and Tampa Bay before arriving in New York to open the new stadium.

end the last year of yankee stadium in boston. start the first year of new yankee stadium in baltimore. makes sense to me.
Before this thread fills with complaining, leagues generally like schedule roadtrips to start seasons for teams opening a new stadium. The Mets don’t play at home until the 14th. This is for unexpected construction delays.
i still dont understand why the people who do the MLB scheds cant figure out how to use the domes and warm weather stadiums in early april properly. what dopes.
It isn’t that they havn’t thought about that. Its that they don’t want the same teams playing a ton of home games in april and then having extra road games later in the season every year. In “fairness” they try to mix it up, which I don’t disagree with in principle, but I agree they should at least make a little more of an effort, even at the expense of a fairer schedule.
Sometimes it can be cool though, remember that game Pettite pitched opening day of 96(?) in a blizzard? That was awesome.
Well, at least this reduces the chances it will be snowing for the first game at Yankee Stadium III
Key is how the hell do we get tickets to opening day?
