I agree. Joe Torre's handling of the bullpen and Tony Womack's performance at the plate are both Varitekian.

girardi was acquitted of these charges. johnson threw 157 innings in 2006 and 139.2 in 2005 in AA combined with 12.1 innings in 2005 in the majors when he came up in the september callups. in 2006, girardi started johnson in the bullpen to keep his innings down (sound familiar). you cannot blame the man for throwing him 5 innings more than he pitched in the previous year. if this isnt an acceptable jump in innings between years, what is?

u cant say pitching when its hot out actually contributed to joba's tendonitis. as a man who has had chronic rotator cuff tendonitis for 4 years, i can promise you the heat has absolutely nothing to do with it, and it is not something that just suddenly happens one day

great point. i had forgotten this. thinking back on it i remember sitting there going dear god just end the game one way or the other cause at this point a loss is better than having to send frickin pettitte or a starter out there for the 11-15 innings lol

can we please remember the FACTS of that game?

Mariano was unavailable.
Veras was unavailable.
Rasner pitched the day before, was bombed, and so Giese pitched 3 IP. they were both unavailable.

the entire bullpen was Bruney, Edwar, Marte, and Robertson.

Joba got hurt in the 5th inning. worst case scenario.

Girardi stretched Edwar for 1 1/3 and Bruney for 1 1/3.

the game was TIED in the bottom on the 9th, so extra innings were looming and there was ONE reliever left, Robertson. worst case scenario.

did Girardi probably leave in Marte 1-2 batters too long? yes. he probably did.

but that is NOTHING, NOTHING at all like the systematic overworking of Vizcaino, Proctor, Gordon, Quantrill and Sturtze over the course of several seasons.

it was an emergency situation that Girardi tried to make the best out of.

don't forget: CONTEXT is important.

the 2 situations aren't even remotely related.

Nicely done. This is even better than when I first heard that very descriptive adjective, Womackian -- as in: "Melky sporting the Womackian .338 slugging percentage."

yes, it was a classic case of having a new toy and constantly playing with it. there were plenty of situations where he came that he shouldnt of, but girardi wanted to put his new luxury to work. just keep in mind, since farnsy is gone, the bombers pen hasnt been the same. but when its all said and done what it comes down to is this teams hitting. let them hit hit hit their asses off and hit their way into the playoffs. we have a series where the pitching is in our favor where we are every capeable of winning 2/3 and potientally sweeping depending on how lester responds to that horrid start against the jays. again, i think we have doc and A.J. in the TOR series. so ut oh.

It was against Texas in Texas, and it was 10,000 degrees, which probably was a contributing factor to the arm troubles that both Joba and Marte came out of that game with.
