Matsui beginning running program today

By Joseph Pawlikowski

At the tail end of an article about Pudge’s injury and Melky’s benching, Kat O’Brien lets us know that Hideki Matsui will begin a running program today. He hadn’t gotten to this point in any of his previous rehab attempts. The lineup could certainly use him.

can melky repay us some of that $175,000 bonus?

Scott says:

I’ve read that Nady can play CF, if so i’d love to see him there with Damon in LF, and Abreu in RF, Matsui DH, certainly sounds nice to me…

TurnTwo says:

i would imagine Damon would stay in CF, like last night.

If Matsui came back, he essential would take over full time for what i thought about this morning, but slide him into the lineup instead of calling Miranda up to hit against RHP.

Damon (CF), Jeter, Abreu, Arod, Matsui (DH), Nady (LF), Giambi (1B), Molina/Pudge, Cano.

Scott says:

Yea I guess, just a thought…

TurnTwo says:

thats a hell of a lineup. just imagine what they could do with that lineup 1-9 playing regularly.

too bad they’ll basically have like 5 weeks left if/when Matsui is cleared to go.

Scott says:

Yea it looks great on paper, but this year the offense has just been inconsistent may not matter who is in the lineup althought getting matsui back would be a great lift

steve says:

the yanks really could use matsui right now to protect arod. they really could use a hitter with a 300 average behind him.

in other news according to espn the sox are trying to get giles from the padres

TurnTwo says:

olney suggested he would be Papi insurance.

i seem to think, along with others, that it was just a block against the Rays.

radnom says:

I guess that all depends on what the Sox know about Papi’s wrist that we don’t.

JRVJ says:

According to Feinsand, Pettitte will miss his next start with either shoulder or elbow stiffness.

When it rains, it pours…..

JohnnyC says:

Telltale signs were there in last 2 starts. Couldn’t get depth on his cutter either game. Likely it’s the elbow. Maybe he’ll re-think coming back next season.

JohnnyC says:

Also, Giles has a NTC and Sox are one of the teams he’s designated as a no go. Doubt he would waive it. Unless Sox pick up his 2009 option as part of the deal.

cult of basebaal says:

why would that matter, the padres are already going to pick up his option …

Manimal says:

I didn’t watch sportscenter last night, was Nady’s dive a Top play?

Manimal says:

Anyways, I think this spells the end of Melky’s reign in center field. The playoff line up of Damon, Jeter, Abreu, Arod, Matsui, Nady, Giambi,Cano, Pudge looks pretty dangerous now.Problem is that the yanks have more of a defensive bench, than an offensive one.

Joey H says:

.. the playoff lineup.. thats funny. we need to get a pitching rotation so these boys can go to work in the first place if we even want to get to the playoffs

Joey H says:

fuck him hes virtually useless to this team. unless he can morph into a starting pitcher, fuck him

jsbrendog says:

if he cant play center field i def dont want to f him

Joey H says:

come again? that makes no sense.
