Again, Jeb, the OLD Yankee Stadium was a jewel. Not this incarnation. Otherwise, there's no way that it would be going the way of the dinosaur. If the Steinbrenner family had any class, they would have torn down the current dump and put up the new stadium on the same hallowed ground while playing for two years at CitiField. (Remember '74 and '75?)

And, yes, Derek Jeter drinks wine coolers and drives a minivan! ;-)

It never ceases to amaze me how mets fans (or fans of any other team) love to say that Yankee Stadium isn't really Yankee stadium, but a horrible imitation. Well...the facade is still on the outside, the frieze is still inside (albeit moved), the field is the same, monument park is there and it's located at the same address.

And, there's tradition at the current stadium -- 10 pennants, 6 world titles, 18 playoff appearances since 1976. Yeah, there's not tradition there at all, only more than just about any other team, including the Muts.

The Mets are currently selling a package where you can buy tix at face value to the last 10 home games and get the rights to those seats for EVERY home playoff game. All you have to pay in addition to the ticket prices is a $250 nonrefundable deposit towards season tickets for next year (which I guess you lose if you don buy the season tickets). My friend bought upper boxes in the infield. Imagine how fast the Yankees would sell out a plan like that (though the point about the playoffs isn't relevant).

PhilK, I think it has less to do with the game than actually getting to be in teh stadium that one last time. I don't get to go to games often due to my parents and this year, I haven't gotten to go and I know if I could I would love ot go see the stadium one last time. I remeber walking out on my first game and seeing the wide open field, it is a great feeling. I personally have never been to Shea but looking on TV, it always looks so dark adn depressing and the atmosphere just feels like a dump.

They will not have alcohol, but the bleacher seats will have access to the rest of the stadium, so you can go get a drink if you want. You won't be able to bring it back, however. They'll be just like the alcohol-free seats in the upper deck in the current stadium.
