  1. Greg says:

    Gardner is the man

    • Steve says:

Watching a guy with his pure speed is something I haven’t seen as a Yankee fan since . . . . . . thinking . . . . . . . gotta be Ricky Henderson in the mid 80s. He plays more shallow than anyone else has in years and STILL stole a HR the other night. He’s made at least 3-4 catches that would have been doubles that nobody else on the team makes.

If he could just get on base 1/3 of the time, I’ll take it. I don’t care what his BA is.

      • Stephen says:

well that’s a terrible way of thinking then. If he hits .240/.333/.340, that’s a terrible starting CF, even if he plays great defense- because that would be Melky 2008 redux.

        • Steve says:

You don’t get the type of player he is. He’s not an OPS guy, he’s a table setter and off the charts defender at a key defensive position (CF).

The way you would judge him is OBP and more importantly, Runs scored. So far he’s had 8 BB and 19 hits as a pro, and scored 14 times. That’s scoring roughly half the times he’s been on base. If he does that over a full season where he gets 600 ABs, gets on base 200 times (I dont care how) and scores 100 runs, then he’s a keeper.

Again, if he gets on base 1/3 of the time and scores at the same rate he does now then he’s a very productive table setter. If Damon is still here he won’t leadoff, but you can carry a guy like him at the #9 hole.

          • Stephen says:

an OBP of .333 is not very good. Look at Jacoby Ellsbury. He’s been dropped several times from the top of the lineup and I don’t think anybody is saying that Gardner can be as good as Ellsbury. Anyway, is his major league career, Gardner’s batting .190/.255/.250. Everybody should be seen through their stats, because no matter how fast you are, if you’re only getting on base 33% percent of the time and hit for no power, you’re not a good offensive player.

I’d just like to say it’s been a disappointment but I’ve still enjoyed reading the comments on this blog. And heres for the offseason being a fun one, not a boring one like last season. Hopefully there will be enough topics to keep this place bouncin as usual.

  48. Ivan says:

  67. Will (the other one) says:

Cody Ransom on the 3-unassisted. Go figure.

    It’s been a sweet 85 years, guys.

  68. Manimal says:

  96. Ivan says:

I will admit, this moment makes me more excited for the new stadium.

  97. Chip says:

How would you like to be the asshole telling players where to go to interviews right now when they’re just enjoying themselves

  98. Will (the other one) says:

“The way the Yankee organization is, they’re always gonna try to put their best players on the field.”

What?! Really? Is that how baseball teams work, Joe?

    Unbelievable.

  99. avi404 says:

Hahahahahahaah….Joe Morgan said this a few minuts ago:

“….I am just like Derek Jeter…”

I don’t remember much of what he said before and after – but that just made me laugh out loud.

These are moments that make me a proud and happy being a yankee fan.

  105. Mike A. says:

That Geico motorcycle insurance commercial with The Sounds slays me.

  106. Yup. Great game from start to finish. ESPN was only mildly annoying a few times, and I’ll forget about that quickly.

  107. avi404 says:

Good night all – Thanks RAB.

  108. mo says:

did anyone else see the little boy tearing up on ESPN? That pretty much symbolized every Yankee fan in America right now.

  109. First story on ESPN: The Patriots.

    Fuck you, Bristol. Fuck you.

  110. Okay… so, now Cleveland beats Boston on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, and we sweep Toronto… and we go into Fenway for a three game set down three!

    LET’S DO THIS SHIT!!!!

  111. UNION YES. says:

There’s a Yankee Stadium urinal cake on eBay already.

  112. Will (the other one) says:

I’m not sure if this is old news, but I was just reading a game recap and came across a quote of Bernie Williams’ that I think might be the most eloquent summary of the “it’s about the fans” theme we’ve all been talking about:

“I think it was more the people than the stadium,” former Yankees star Bernie Williams said. “People talk a lot about the magic and the aura, but what really made the stadium was the fans. Concrete doesn’t talk back to you. Chairs don’t talk back to you. It’s the people that are there, that root for you day in and day out, that’s what makes this place magical.”

As far as I’m concerned, you can’t say it more perfectly than that. One of the many reasons we’ve loved you all these years, Bernie.

  113. Nickel says:

Well, 26 World Championships in 85 years. I sure hope they do better in the next 85 the new stadium :-)

  114. dave says:

im happy to be part of history

i wasnt here all night but thats amazing that you guys went to the 3rd thread

    im in awe of everything

  115. UNION YES. says:

“Showering love on you?” C’mon Kay.

  116. Barry says:

I guess all there is to say is that I’m gonna miss that place.

  117. Mike A. says:

Haha, well done Singy. You’ll always be 51 around here.

  118. BigBlueAL says:

Honestly, the only thing missing was Joe Torre and Don Mattingly. But they are busy getting ready for the playoffs.

Sorry couldnt let that one go, but honestly not having Torre and Donnie Baseball there sucked a bit.

  119. UNION YES. says:

It’s great watchin the guys taking Yankee Stadium dirt.

  120. Mike A. says:

Giambi last hit, Joba last K, Gardner last run.

  121. UNION YES. says:

    To everything turn turn turn

  122. Mike A. says:

Oh man, tomorrow’s rookie hazing day!!!

  123. pat says:

hey mike i was wondering what was the previous high for posts?

  124. Smitt Dog says:

They really did it right tonite. Something we should all be proud of and happy with. This night was well done, and typifies what our organization is capable of when we do things the right way. Tonight made me remember why I love this team and put so much emotion into following them. Classy event all around, and the only fitting way to send out the old Stadium. I haven’t cried in years and I teared up more than once tonight.

  125. pat says:

mitch hedberg is in this episode of that 70s show, COULD THIS NIGHT GET ANY BETTER???????
    ok goodbye

  126. Tim says:

I never cried as happy, sad, depressedful, and grateful as i did tonight. Thank you Yankee Stadium. I truly love you. Goodnight.

  127. Batty says:

Great, great night. How fitting for Mo to finish what Pettite started.

I did think that speech sounded a little toolish though.

  128. Dan M says:

Mell Hall wasnt available to attend? Guess he couldnt post bail

  129. Dan M says:

#1 moment for me was 95 against mariners. Mattingly’s hr was amazing the place shook like crazy. and then standing in the cold rain when leyritz went deep to win it in the 17th. Amazing game

  130. Dan M says:

its going to be a long winter
