I can't elaborate beyond what you see in his numbers, but he pitched very effectively in the AA this year. He had a very strong post-season as well. From what I know, he throws a mid-90s fastball with some solid secondary pitches. The Nats had him working as a starter at A, and he struggled a bit. Once he moved into the bullpen, he really thrived. It's possible that the Yanks landed themselves a good deal with Gonzalez. It's also possible that Washington and New York traded nothing for nothing.

i don't know much about Nunez, but just looking at what he did in 2008 (small sample) as a reliever, i am not so sure he's a "nobody".

he's 22 and his numbers in Trenton look pretty dominant.

it's possible a Yankee scout saw something and told Cashman to try to get him.

maybe Ben or Mike could elaborate on Nunez?

I'm not sure about this, but I think he was running out of options. We were at a point where we either had to play him or deal him.

Anyway, I was happy to see him go somewhere where he's getting a chance to play.

Are you actually bitter that the Yanks traded some no-hit short stop to the Nationals earlier this year? Alberto Gonzalez is not destined for much of anything.

Yeah, that kid who deserves the at bats is named Alberto Gonzalez...and we dealt him for a nobody.

Glad to hear he didn't break anything, but I'd still give him the rest of the year off after tomorrow night. We all saw what happened after Cabrera hit his hand earlier in the year, he was useless at the plate. Let a kid get some ABs.
