Not dead yet

By Benjamin Kabak

While they had the tying and winning runs in scoring position, the Red Sox couldn’t top the Indians tonight, and the Yankees live to fight another day. As David Pinto relates, the game was not without controversy as an ump got in the way of the ball, thus costing the Red Sox a key run. The Yanks are now six out in the Wild Card with six left to play. Stranger things haven’t really happened.

I beg to differ

Does a bear shit in the woods?

Wait…

steve (different one) says:

yeah, it ain’t gonna happen, but what IS a little funny is watching the Mets implode for the second year in a row.

Ben K. says:

I grew to love the Phillies during college so I secretly root for the Mets to do this every year. But it’s sort of pathetic too.

mascot says:

If they go into Fenway 3 GB… I mean, Lee vs. Wakefield tomorrow night, then Paul Byrd…

Ben K. says:

Yeah but the other side of that equation is that the Yanks have to win also. Despite their 8-2 home stand, they have a record under .500 on the road and are 2-4 in the SkyDome this year.

I didn’t tag this one unbridled optimism for nothin’!

Burnett on Wed, Halladay on Thurs. ‘Nuff said….

Travis G. says:

“Billy Mumphrey was a cock-eyed optimist…”

Brian says:

Is it me or have we drawn Halladay/Burnett–both–in every series against the Jays this year?

steve (different one) says:

they’ve seen Halladay 5 times, this will be 6. a little ridiculous.

Simon B. says:

Dream as a I might, can you imagine the buzz if just the Yankees swept their series and the Red Sox were swept in there’s?

kevkev says:

Hey we can all still hope that maybe the curse could come back to life against the sox.. did you see the play where the ball hit the umpire to get the final out with bases loaded. how great would it be three out with three games to end the season with against the sox!! YOU GOTTA BELIEVE!!!!

Ben K. says:

You know what definitely won’t bring the Yanks good luck right now? Stealing catch phrases from the Mets. The Mets! Hah.

Brian says:

So it’d be Aceves, Pettitte, Moose at the Fens…..and Phil Huge Largo in a tiebreaker?
Yeah, I’d sign up for that.

Ron says:

Improbable? Yes. But no less improbable than 2004. And, if we do go into Fenway tied, sweep the Sux and then win the play-off game, that, in my mind, will atone for 2004.

Yank Crank 20 says:

I see what you mean but this is definitely more improbable. The Sox had to win 4 in a row, with 2 of those actually being home games. For this to work we need to win 7 in a row, 6 of which are on the road (no clue where the playoff would be held). I’d love for this to happen but winning 7 in a row with all of them on the road would be quite difficult. Maybe they have it in them?

steve (different one) says:

actually, it’s MUCH MUCH more improbable than 2004.

this is 7 games, not 4. and in 3 of those games, the Yankees have zero control over what happens.

it would probably be the single biggest collapse in the history of the game. the Sox are too good for that to happen.

sorry to be a wet blanket.

Mike Pop says:

I would love to go in that series with a chance at the playoffs i wouldnt even care if we lost the 3rd game it would just be awesome

Yank Crank 20 says:

You know what I was thinking? With the Indians needing to take all 4 from the Sox in Boston, it made me think of the Carmona suspension and how he’ll miss his next start…which would have been at Fenway in this series. So with Sheff starting that fight he completely, indirectly, fucked us. It may not get that far, and may never matter, but it just made me laugh how Sheffield had something to do with the Indians throwing weaker pitching at the Sox this week when we need them to lose.

JohnC says:

If all that happened, then I would really beleive in divine intervention.

kevkev says:

Carmona is starting he appealed his suspension
