I mentioned this last night. You really think the Yankees are gonna be motivated to win games to finish 3rd ahead of the Blue Jays??????

They will be fired up I would hope when Moose pitches to try to get him 20 wins this season, but other than that I wouldnt be surprised to see this team stumble down the stretch, especially the final week playing on the road. Maybe in their final homestand they will hopefully at the least send out the old Stadium in fashion with some wins, but if the Yanks are gonna finish 3rd it will probably take Toronto playing somewhat poorly down the stretch….

    Hey it’s a transition year.

The Yankee FO while are gonna be dissapointed but at the same time are not gonna really go crazy and knew this was a possibility.

09 is really the target year.

who cares. i’d rather finish in last place…if we’re not going to make the post-season.

  4. Ivan says:

I’ll be honest, does it really matter. Once you finish below second, does it really matter. 3rd and 4th wow huge difference. At this point you just watch yankee games for the heck of it and see if they finish the season strong.

“Toronto tied for 3rd with Yanks”

    WOOOO-HOOOO!!

OUR DRAFT PICK JUST GOT ONE NOTCH BETTER!!!!

BTW-Lets be honest, who cares at this point. Play the kiddie-poos.

I expected the Rays to tank in June. Glad to see my intuition was right but three months premature.

assuming that losing does not affect your bottom line, and i suspect that it won’t (for this year), then the only reason i’d rather finish in 5th place in the AL, instead of 14th is pride. a team still misses the playoffs, and there is no other benefit to 5th.

since pride doesn’t yield any tangible results and finishing lower provides a higher draft pick, i’d rather finish in last place, IF the Yanks are unable to make the playoffs.

if there is a counter argument for why 5th place is great, i’d like to hear it…

Going to the game tonight- the Yanks make it out here not very often- so how shitty is it to be witness to Sidney Ponson pitch the only game I will see in person this year? Pretty shitty- At least call up Hughes or IPK so there can be some mild interest.

Instead I get to be witness to Ponson getting bounced in the 3rd and Ryan Rowland Smith shutting down the Yanks line-up. Make it interesting- bring back Graeme Lloyd for a day so we can have the all-Aussie game this evening.

  9. E-ROC says:

I hope Joe Girardi makes a last minute change in the rotation and have somebody not named Ponson pitching.

  10. Hybrid Moments says:

It will be really embarrassing if the Yankees finish in fourth place. Third is bad enough but when you consider the talent that the Yankees have its pretty laughable that they’re this far out of the postseason race.

  11. Steve says:

If we keep this up, our draft picks might be protected by the end of the month.

    Then we can sign EVERYONE!

  12. yankeemonkey says:

Ugly line for Wakefield tonight…Of course considering Boston is facing Texas pitching, that game is faaaaaar from over.

  13. Reggie C. says:

Imagine sitting not so pretty in 4th place by tomorrow morning. Wow…..

  14. Haggs says:

The Yanks battle for fourth place on the day Joe Torre’s team takes over first place (albeit with a 72-70 record). Awesome.

  15. Yankees=warriors says:

I would say none of the team officials care anyways.
Why else are they still pitching Ponson tonight? If they’d learned anything from Rasner’s start they would have made the change already. Instead, they’re going to “try their luck” with Ponson, and end up burning the bullpen again.
Seeing how obvious this is, it must be that they just want the draft picks like us.

Once again what does it matter 2nd, 3rd,4th or last this is all garbage time now. When they been in the playoff for so long does anyone really think it’s going to matter to them.
