Yanks, Sox to play two tomorrow
At long last, Andrew Brackman

This year’s theme: The Village People. The cast: Brett Gardner as the construction worker, Juan Miranda as the cop, Al Aceves as the indian, Frankie Cervelli as the biker, Humberto Sanchez as the sailor, and David Robertson as the cowboy. Phil Coke was spared because there weren’t enough costumes to go around.

Given the way they played all year, it’s no surprise the team vets mailed this one in too. Yawn.

Phil coke should have been in a giant can of soda.

Phil Coke should have been a huge , bent, rusty spoon.

    Off topic,

Word on the street(MLBTR) is that Soria is on the market. What would it take to get Soria. You think they would want Damon again?

    • YankCrank20

I certainly hope you’re joking with the idea of trading a 34-year-old left fielder with no arm for one of the better up-and-coming closers in the league who still has the potential and arsenal to become a solid starter. I’m going to assume you’re joking…sorry I didn’t pick up on the sarcasm right away.

      • Manimal

Where did I say the trade was straight up Damon for Soria? We need to trade damon and he has had success as a Royal so I was just throwing that out there. I was thinking maybe like Veras/Edwar and Cano for Soria.

        • Manimal

They could try Cano at Short because Pena sucks balls. With that arm he should have no problem.

          • Steve H

Come on. This is the biggest nonsense I’ve ever read. The Royals have absolutely NO USE for Damon. They have a rookie SS hitting .323, and Cano could never, ever, ever play SS. Plus Cano makes much more money than Soria. What would possess the Royals to want to trade Soria. He’s young, great and cheap.

            • YankCrank20

Agreed. Nobody on the Yankees is young enough, talented enough and cheap enough to be dealt to the Royals for a player of Soria’s caliber….other than Hughes or Chamberlain. There will not be a Yanks/Royals deal including Soria.

            • Manimal

oh my god guys, I asked what it would take to get Soria because I WASN’T SURE. I take a guess and you flip out. You tell me what would be a fair trade.

              • http://www.spartacus.schoolnet.co.uk/CRsmithT1.jpg tommiesmithjohncarlos

Well, then, dude, perhaps you should just asked what it would take without adding your own utterly absurd proposal of Johnny Damon.

If I asked you “Hey, who do you think is gonna win the election, I think maybe Ross Perot”, what part of that comment do you think you’d focus on?

    • Steve H

I read the article, there is no mention of Soria being on the market (because it doesn’t make sense). There is ONE scout who recommends trading Soria and Grienke. No rumors, speculation, just one person’s recommendation.

  • Manimal

Yankees.com is saying that Moose is going to pitch vs Matsuzaka, wouldn’t it make more sense to pitch him vs. Wakefield?

    • Rafi

My guess is just in case it rains and they can only get one game in. Why take a chance with Moose’s shot at 20?

  • jim

    wow,sanchez is a big dude

    • Steve

Oh yeah. My last trip to the stadium was the Hughes start last week, and during God Bless America he was standing next to Jose Molina. He looked about a foot taller than him.

“…and during God Mo Bless America he was standing next to Jose Molina.”

        Fixed.

if anybody’s out there big brackmeezy just pitched in hawaii. It wasnt very pretty. 2 1/3 innings, five runs (two runners his responsibility), seven hits, two walks, three K’s, three SB’s. 71 pitches with 45 strikes. I think a few of the runs were unearned as buster posey was catching and allowed 2 passed balls.

I think we might need to temper our expectations with this kid a little. Hes obviously got sick stuff but hes extremely raw and we all know tall pitchers take longer to develop.

    • Mike R.

This was his 2nd game after over 18 months off. The numbers are meaningless. Once the scouting reports start coming in stating his velocity and what his off speed stuff looked like then we will have something.

      • pat

Oh I know that the results arent important i was just reporting back bc i know he is a person of great interest around here. As mike said in the next post over, the good thing is that out of his 45 strikes 35 were of the swinging variety

      • Steve

To be honest, were all hypocrites about this stuff. This is like Spring Training, the numbers are meaningless unless he throws a 2-hitter with 10 strikeouts. Then he’s the next Sandy Kofax.

Tyler Kepner has this most disturbing quote from Giambi:

The prank was the idea of Rob Cucuzza, the clubhouse manager, but the always-zany Jason Giambi took credit for the outfits.

“I told them they can only borrow them,” Giambi said. “I’m going to use them later.”

I’m thinking of gold thongs and shuddering…

  • Capital T

Its hard not to like Giambi even though he probably will not be back

brett gardener really looks like an actual construction worker
