Mike, what was Melancon’s velocity range?

    • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike A.

      I saw 92-94 mostly. Filthy.

Melancon looked very good. His ball has alot of movement and he’s a GB machine.

    Terrific offspeed stuff. Just nasty.

Miranda called up to the bigs

Have the Yankees announced who’s being sent to the Hawaiian Winter League?

they spelled Melancon’s name wrong on the game broadcast when he came in from the pen, and i know its silly, but i got angry for him… it’s not MALANCON, its MELANCON!

    No call up for Kennedy?

I’m sure he can squeeze at least one start in place of Pavano or something.

They are taking the tough love approach with IPK. He is going to have to earn everything form here on out (if he is not moved in the offseason that is).

  • Ian Kennedy Rookie cards for sale – Cheap!

Looking forward to a 2009 Yankee season without the mention of the names Kennedy or Pavano.
(actually I don’t have any Kennedy RCs and hope you don’t either).

Kennedy did little to earn a call-up. You don’t get one just because you were a first-round draft choice. Make him earn it through performance on the field, in spring training or during the 09 season.

      Let’s parse!

Kennedy did little to earn a call-up.

Other than, of course, totally dominating in college and the minors, which is one of the two main reasons that most guys get a call-up.

You don’t get one just because you were a first-round draft choice.

And that’s the other. You also get a call-up because the organization thinks highly of you and your potential to be an effective major leaguer, which Kennedy, with his exceptional command and projectability, has. You get a call-up because you have either done great things in the past or the organization thinks you can do great things in the future. IPK fits on both counts.

Make him earn it through performance on the field, in spring training or during the 09 season.

And he will. Just like he’s done so far, up to this point. He earned his shots in ’07 and ’08, he’ll no doubt earn another one next year. Go peruse his minor league stats and tell me which one of his call-ups he didn’t earn… I’ll wait.

  • The Scout

One right now, based on what he’s done in the minors this year. Feel free to parse all you want. if the organization agrees with you, Kennedy will be called up now. If the organization shares my view that this season he did too little to justify a cal up, he won’t be.
