Win tickets to tonight’s Phil Hughes start

By Benjamin Kabak

Thanks to Scott at 3 Kids Tickets, we’ve got a pair of tickets to give away for tonight’s start. Not only would you get to see one of the final games at the stadium, but Phil Hughes is making his first start since the beginning of the season. The seats are in Tier Reserve, Section 27, Row S, and the first person to answer the following question correctly in the comments and leave a valid e-mail address in the e-mail field will win the tickets.

Connect Phil Hughes to the first batter to come to the plate at Yankee Stadium in 1923. The connection should follow the traditional Kevin Bacon game. For example, to connect Don Mattingly to Mickey Mantle, you would say that Mattingly played on the 1983 Yankees with Bobby Murcer who played on the 1965 Yankees with Mantle. Get to it; time’s a-wastin’.

Hughes played with Jeter in 2008, who played with Mattingly in 1995, who played with Murcer in 1983, who played with Mantle in 1965, who played with Dimaggio in 1951, who played with Gehrig in 1936, who played with Ruth in 1923, who played with Chick Fewster in Boston, and batted first that game.

David,

You’re almost right. If you find the mistake and make the correction before someone else posts a correct chain, the tickets are yours.

Dave says:

Hughes played with Jeter in 2008, who played with Donnie Baseball in 1995, who had played with Bobby Murcer in 1983, who played with Mantle in 65, who himself played with DiMaggio in 1951, who’d played with Gehrig in 1936, who played with Ruth in 1923, who had played with Chick Fewster on while they were both on the Yanks in 1922 before Fewster went to the Sox. Fewster batted first in the game in question.

Clayton says:

Wowza. This close. Credit to Dave for doing all the hard work.

Dave says:

Give them to Geno. It is going to be impossible for me to get tehre on time.

Ben K. says:

Gotcha. If Geno can’t take them, Clayton gets third crack at it.

Dave says:

But way to copy/paste my answer and just put the correct city in :)

Geno says:

I’m a copy editor by trade :)

IvanS says:

I made the mistake of taking Ruth all the way to Bill Dickey, then following him to Yogi, which wouldn’t have gotten me to Murcer who played into the 80’s…

I went…Fewster, Ruth, Dickey, Yogi, Roy White, Righetti, Velarde, Jeter, Hughes.

Dave says:

You gotta use what you’re given.

Thanks guys, I was a long time reader way before I became an advertiser.

Congrats again to the winner.

Andy in Sunny Daytona says:

Hughes pitched to Frewster in a minor league game in 2006. He induced a groundball to third on 4 pitches.

Hughes played with Mariano. Mariano is God. God made Chick Fewster.

GIVE ME SOME FUCKING TICKETS!
