An AL East sweep

James: Yanks lacking in young talent
World Series Game 1: Phils @ Rays

In their illustrious history, the Phillies have had little success in the World Series, garnering just one title in all of their years. There’s an interesting hitch to this history of title losses: The team has faced and lost to the Red Sox, Yankees, Orioles and Blue Jays in the World Series. If Tampa wins, the Phillies will become the first team to lose a World Championship to each of the current AL East teams. This historical failure would truly set the bar for a team that has 10,098 regular season losses. (Hat tip to The Big Lead)

    Philadelphia Phillies’ FAIL:

I’ve been waiting hours to use that; thanks for the alley-oop, Ben.

  • tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Mr. Irrelevant Non-Sequitur Jones

Well done, Ben. I’m convinced. Switch my official rooting interest from the Phillies to the Rays.

    • Ben K.

I sort of feel the same way. The potential for epic AL East fail is too great for me to root for the Phillies.

    • pat

lohud called they want their screen name back n00b

      • tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Mr. Irrelevant Non-Sequitur Jones

Don’t make me fuck around and make it even longer…

  • Slugger27

im indifferent to who wins, but this does give a slight nudge in favor of rooting for the rays… that would be a very impressive ((or unimpressive)) feat for the phils to pull off

  • jsbrendog

cant wait to use this one on my philly fan friends

  • Hank (no not that one)

fwiw its not the order they joined the AL East but the order they joined the AL.

  • eVizions

I really hate Phillies fans (I live in PA), so this lil tidbit will work nicely… thanks!

    • Mike Pop

How can you hate Phillies fans going to that park is awesome

  • A.D.

Silver lining… their franchise made it to at least 5 WS

  • D.B.

hey guys, this is a little off topic but who do you prefer now, daniel bard (1.99 era in AA as a reliever) or kennedy?

    It’s true
In order for us to copy the success of the Rays and Bosox
here’s what we have to do————>

Get Burnett as he is Roy Halliday Jr. had more “K’s” last season…& get lefty Oliver “Ollie 4 prez” Perez

stay away from big wasted $$$ on C.C. and Teixara and Manny is just ridiculous let the Mets, Bosox snd Dodgers fight over him, do you people wan’t to repeat the mistakes we’ve made before??? over & over again????

Get rid of dead weight Giambi and cancerous Robinson Cano. I’d seriously get Orioles to the table for Markakis who reminds me alot of O’Neill and who will not resign in Balt after 2011 anyway….offer up Cano who’s a marquee name & can be a beast in Camden with @ .450 avg there and offer up Ian “Whitson” Kennedy and either CF’s Melky or Prospect Austin Jackson

Then get your CF “Nate McLouth” give up pitchers you’ll never use anyway in Marquez and Alan Horne and whatever CF you don’t trade in the “Markakis” deal if need be

then bring up your Melenchan this team fell apart after they traded Farnsworth last year and put Joba back in the PEN!

lineup should look something like this—————>

    SS Jeter R
    LF Gardner L
    3b Arod R
    DH Matsui L
    1b Nady
    RF Markakis L
    CF McLouth L
    C Posada S
    2b Ransom R

    SP Wang R
    SP Burnett R
    SP Hughes R
    SP Perez L
    SP Mussina-Pettite R/L

    RP longman – Giese-R
    RP Lefty-Coke-L
    RP Lefty-Marte-L
    RP 7th-Melenchon-R
    RP 8th-Chamberlain-R
    RP closer-Rivera-R

    • Mike Pop

Ok ollie is such a bad idea and keep dreaming bout getting markakis no chance in hell as they want to keep him… Burnett is good but how can you say Tex is wasted money your nuts or CC is wasted money when your going after Perez ?!?!?!?!?

      • Mike Pop

If people really wanna trade Cano why not look at the Twins for a possible destination.. I would want Scott Baker for him… I wouldnt take Blackburn or Perkins for him and they def wouldnt give up Liriano.. Slowey is pretty good tho right ? But is Baker for Cano possible ?

        • whozat

All our farm system produces right now is pitching.

You want to trade…for more pitching.

          • Mike Pop

Im not saying its a definite just Cain is too much people say and Grienke also so why not Baker he is nice.. Cano would fit good in Minny.. I would want more but they wouldnt give more

    • Mike A.

Looks like you got lost. Here you go:

      • Mike Pop

        I got lost ?

        • Mike A.

          No, not you.

          • tommiesmithjohncarlos

I just went back and read it again… Handsome Cody Ransom as our starting second baseman.

Fucking CLASSIC. That man is a genius.

    • Jamal G.

I love how you put Nate McClouth’s name in quotes like he’s some folktale that baseball followers conjured up to represent what a real Center Fielder should be like.

      • tommiesmithjohncarlos

This may be a long winter, my friend…

    • Slugger27

dude i read ur entire post twice and the only 2 things i agree with are 1. getting rid of giambi 2. bringing up melancon ((by the way, thats how his name is spelled))

u cant possibly think the sox are gonna be in a bidding war over manny can u??? what planet r u on???

    • Slugger27

another thought: how are any of those transactions a form of “copying” the rays and bosox? when in the hell did either of them build a winning team in that fashion?

    • Jamal G.

      I hate you.

      • A.D.

this made me laugh out loud

  • E-ROC

I’m still rooting for the Phillies.
