Brackman, Sublett help Waikiki to their second straight win

By Mike Axisa

HWB Waikiki (3-1 win over North Shore)
Damon Sublett: 1 for 3, 1 RBI, 2 K – 5 RBI in 3 games since returning from injury
Andrew Brackman: 5 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 5 K, 1 WP, 6-4 GB/FB – 42 of 63 pitches were strikes (66.7%) … threw first pitch strikes to 13 of the 18 batters he faced … but he’s already a bust, so why do I bother

The Arizona Fall League starts on Monday. Most of the various Caribbean winter leagues start their seasons in a week, except for the Puerto Rican League, which starts in November. So far the only Caribbean team to post its roster is the Caracas Lions of the Venezuelan Winter League. No Yankees on that squad; it’s your typical mix of prospects and journeyman.

I thought there was no longer a Puerto Rican Winter League??

Yankees=warriors says:

I wish we could watch these games instead of the playoffs. At least there’s a reason for watching.
Seriously, is it just me or has the playoffs become VERY boring to watch?
No dramactic wins and various series sweeps 2 years in a row?
Not to mention the Sox always winning…

Steve says:

This years playoffs have been bad. You need a 5 game series somewhere, and so far they all look like sweeps.

Ricochet says:

Brackman’s stuff is awesome but it’s going to take awhile for him to trust his arm let alone shake off all the rust and then there a just bad games but I’m sure some more of a clueless fans will overreact one way or another but it is nice to see have a nice start.

justin says:

mark my words…Brackman will be in the bullpen by the end of the year and all the yankee hater…ahem…fans will shut their stupid mouths

Tremont says:

Seems a bit ambitious.

Steve says:

One thing I like about Brackman (like Betances) is that he hasn’t pitched much. Guys his size tend to have mechanical issues, and getting a guy coming off TJ who didn’t pitch much in college, you have about as clean a slate as you could hope for. He shouldn’t have a lot of bad habits to break like Randy Johnson did early in his career.

Mike Pop says:

Brackman better live up to the hope

The Honorable Congressman Mondesi says:

Anyone know of any websites that have game-summaries or scouting reports from the games?

steve (different one) says:

3 Hits and a walk? what a bust.

Simon B. says:

Any reports on what he’s been throwing (velocity, offspeed pitches, etc.)?

Reggie C. says:

That’s the big question Mike. We’d all love to know. Do you still think that Brackman starts off in High-A? Would you consider a move to the bullpen disappointing or likely b/c of his power but raw stuff. Do you think he’s a larger Kyle Farnsworth?

Mike A. says:

Why wouldn’t he start off in High-A? As far as moving him to the bullpen, it’s way way waaaaaaaay too early to start talking about that. Give the kid a chance to spend a full season in the rotation before even considering it.

steve (different one) says:

are you confusing Brackman and Cole?

i’ve never heard Farnsworth in reference to Brackman.

Jacob says:

I too would like to know about this. What kind of stuff does he have?

Mike A. says:

I don’t know how his stuff looked last night. As far as his stuff in general though:

ManBearPig says:

What is Sublett’s ceiling and how far away is he?

Mike A. says:

Utility infield guy, hits for a nice amount of power. If he comes back fully healthy next year, he’s about 2 years away.

Old Ranger says:

Anyone know if Francisco Cervelli is going to play winter ball and where?
This guy is my new project for the new year. 21/22 year old great defence and arm, athletic, good avg. hitter with good OBP, not a lot of HR power. If you look at his stats, take into mind he was a switch hitter, his numbers are much better now that he has given it up. Until the other catchers catch up, he is the next best catcher we have, same tools as Molina…but, younger, better hitter, more athletic. Molina has more experience and knows the league much better.
I’ll look forward to seeing Brackman and Sublett next year in A+/AA. Sublett was a 3rd baseman and they switched him to 2nd, let’s hope he can make a run for next year.

Andy In Sunny Daytona says:

18 strikeouts for the BeachBoys. Is the Kevin Long the hitting coach? ZING

Matt L says:

There is no way that they move Brackman to the BP for a while, the organization views him as a right-handed Randy Johnson.

Mike F. says:

The scary thing is that a Papelbon got the save.

Frank says:

That’s hilarious. I forgot his brother was in the Sox’ system. He’s got decent numbers too. And he looks exactly like his big bro…. makes me CRINGE.
