Meachem most likely to take the fall

By

When the Yankees don’t make the playoffs and finish in third place, someone has to take the fall. So how about the rookie third base coach who showed a tendency to get runners thrown out at the plate? Mark Feinsand reports that the Yanks are considering replacing Bobby Meachem with Luis Sojo. Despite the Yanks’ offensive woes this year, Kevin Long’s job appears to be safe.

I like Luis. I just hope Joe G likes him. I wonder if he will be worthy of Giardi’s inner sanctum?

  • Old Ranger

Luis and Joe played on the NYY 1996-1999 (I think), there shouldn’t be a problem with them getting along. 27/09.

    • Jack

Just playing with someone doesn’t mean you like them.

  • Manimal

Is luis the kind of guy that can get in Cano’s head?

  • JD

Never should have let Bowa leave!

  • Currambayankees

Why not bring Bowa back? He’s awesome at 3rd and does have an out with the Dodgers. Ughhh, come on Yanks bring Bowa back.

  • Barry

I’m not a Kevin Long fan.

    • dan

      any reason? just curious.

  • nyyank55

forget about Sojo and bring Willie BACK!!!! Bowa won’t leave Torre. Willie can get into Cano’s head. No problem there.

  • nyyank55

Kevin Long should be LONG GONE. How’s this for a suggestion: Paul O’Neill.

    • dan

Paul O’Neill won’t leave his family to do more than like 10 broadcasts for YES, there’s zero chance he takes a coaching job for 8 months of the year.

Besides, if anyone struck out, he would start smashing all the watercoolers with bats. Because when one of Paulie’s students fails, he fails.

        • dan

          lol

        • nyyank55

If you haven’t noticed, that’s what’s wrong with the present day Yankees…NO FIRE IN THE BELLY.

  • Lanny

Meachem was a terrible 3b coach.

Long is also the guy who lead this team to 900+ runs two yrs in a row. You can’t make lemonade with lemons(molina, melky, etc)

    • Andy In Sunny Daytona

Well, Melky didn’t exactly have a shitty year last year. This year? Total poo-poo? Last year? Half-way decent.
      Bring back teh Bowa!!11!!

You can’t make lemonade with lemons

      You sure can’t. ;)

      • Andy In Sunny Daytona

I’m think lemons are an essential ingredient when making lemonade, but you also need sugar. That’s why we all should be sweeter to Melky.

Please get rid of Bobby Meachem. This is one of the worst players in Yankee history. A sad reminder of the futility of the mid 80’s.When I remember the disappiontments of that time it is his face I remember most. Just hearing his name makes me shake my head. He is bad karma and should be treated as such. Sorry Bobby but you are not worthy of wearing the pinstripes.

  • Arizona Steve

Oh and you can replace Meachem with the blow up of Conan O’Brien that has the waving arms and that still would be an improvement over Meachem.

  • Angel

Bring Willie to third thats all there is to it

  • Steve

If this happens then Girardi has only one guy left that he brought with him, bullpen coach Mike Harkey.

Why hire a manager if your not going to let him pick at least SOME of his coaches? I understand the Yanks have a certain way of doing things as an organization, but Girardi needs to be surrounded with guys that he can trust.

  • Brad

I get firing Meacham. He was horrible. But Luis Sojo? He was horrendous as the third base coach as well – way, way too aggressive. Luis “So Go” indeed.

    • steve (different one)

thank you, no one seems to remember this.

he was EXACTLY like Meacham. waved everyone home.

fire Meacham, i don’t really care, but the notion that Meacham was at all “reponsible” for anything and should “take the fall” is moronic. he’s the 3B coach.

he was too aggressive, but you know what? the team couldn’t hit with RISP all season. if you aren’t going to get another hit, might as well send as many runners as you can.

      • Brad

That’s a great point as well. Remember a couple of years ago, when the Redskins seemingly hired every big name, big money coach on the planet? They still sucked, because they didn’t have the players.

Tony Pena 3rd base, No. Paul 1st base..

  • Marty Puccio

Big Dave for hitting coach! #31

  • Mike

I think Dave Eiland should have to go. He was brough up to be the pitching coach just because of the young starters. Both Hughes and Kennedy were garbage this year. Joba was the only one of them that pitch well when healthy and you can’t give credit for Eiland for that. I think that our boy, “louisiana lightning” Ron Guidry should be brought back. It was redicus that the Yankees let him go in the first place.

  • James (hates Carl F’ing Pavano)

I’m sure that true Yankee fans will remember Luis Sojo’s hit to win the 2000 World Series vs the mets in the top of the 9th of game 5…

Sojo knows the yankee way and is the right man for the job!

  • al

is everyone forgetting that sojo was the 3B coach before bowa? he was just as bad as meachem
