Miranda returns to the desert in style
ByAzFL Peoria (6-4 win over Pheonix)
Austin Jackson: 0 for 4 - grounded into your garden variety 1-6-5-3-4-3 double play
Juan Miranda: 4 for 4, 2 R, 2 2B, 1 3B, 1 RBI - he destroys this league
Kevin Russo: 0 for 1, 1 K - pinch hit late for the Reds’ Justin Turner
HWB Waikiki (4-0 loss to Waikiki in 7 innings) I give up, no friggin’ idea why they’re only playing 7 innings
Damon Sublett: 0 for 3, 1 K - first hitless game since coming to the islands
Andrew Brackman: 3.1 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 4 BB, 4 K, 2 WP, 3-3 GB/FB - only 38 of 77 pitches were strikes (49.4%) … in his chat today, Keith Law offered this up: “Brackman is pitching in Hawaii now, also with his old velocity and a good breaking ball, but with the usual command issues for a guy that recently off surgery” … so don’t freak out about the walks, it’s normal for a guy this far out from TJ
Frankie Cervelli & Carlos Mendoza will be suiting up for Cardenales de Lara of the Venezuelan Winter League this offseason. High-A Tampa manager Luis Sojo will manage the team, and old pal Ramiro Mendoza will work out of the bullpen.
Caribbean League rosters are slowly trickling in, I’ll keep you updated where guys are playing.

El Brujo lives! Also, I love 1-6-5-3-4-3 double plays. Best around. And finally, Brackman is teh suck!one!11
Did I cover everything there?
you forgot “Cano is lazy” and “Hughes is a jerk!!!!”
you forgot “Cano is lazy Dominican” and “Hughes is a jerk who can’t throw 95!!!!”
Fixed.
“Hughes is a jerk who can’t throw 95 and isn’t chinese!!!!
Fixed.
Thanks. Can’t BELIEVE i left that part out. I’m an idiot.
What still no Humberto sighting in Arizona?
Good to see Brackman getting his work in.
Can you imagine a dream starting rotation in say 2012 of Brackman(6′10″)
Dellin Betances(6′ 8″) Humberto Sanchez(6′6″) Zach McAllister(6′6″) and Nik Turley(6′7″). It might not be a realistic rotation but they would make a great pick up team.
Especially since Brackman was a power forward in the ACC
Humberto Sanchez = Oliver “Fatboy” Miller
Auff Tpic:
I was just reading the Keith Law chat and the following reply had me in splits:
“Craig (PA): Explain why the blake trade is bad for LA? If he gets them to a WS, wont it be worth it?
Keith Law: The only way Blake “gets them” to the World Series is if he drives the bus. ”
One of the best replies evaaar.
Have the big3 of RAB even come close to something this witty?
daily
KLaw outwits us on a daily basis.
Well, there was the time that Mike said this:
“If I could just say a few words here… I’d be a better public speaker!”
AAAA-hahahahahahahahahahahahahah!
I think it’s cute how you guys dropped the KLaw chat link through the Brackman mention. It was very modest of you.
Agreed. Classy indeed - Melky’ish in nature.
Now that RAB does not deserve the attention - it’s my favorite yankee blog.
IM “Not that RAB does not deserve…”
Wait, what happened? Did I miss something? I’m not trying to gloat that he mentioned us, I just wanted to post the Brackman info since people have been asking how his velocity is looking.
what is his normal velocity?
You can get that from the MILB pre-draft report. Just google Brackman and pre-draft report , and you should get it.
94-95 had touched 99 in Cape Cod league
WOW…a Ramiro Mendoza sighting! What happened to him since he last pitched for our lifelong nemisis’ up to our north?
-Scott
nemeses.
he pitched for the Yankees in 2005.
I believe Edwar Gonzalez is on the same Venezuelan Winter League team as Cervelli, he’s on the roster for the linked team embedded.
“I give up, no friggin’ idea why they’re only playing 7 innings”
I have been trying to figure that out myself and all I could find is that they were only scheduled to go 7 innings.
For gods sake guys!
It’s Hawaii!
Do you guys think anyone works a full day down there?
If Klaw says that Brackman is back to his “old velocity” then that means he’s back to throwing his 4 seamers in the 94-95 range. That’s really good news. If his season can match that which Betances just put up, then we’re talking about solid progression.
Remember that Betances is only a couple inches shorter than Brackman, but as the season progressed he was able lower that BB rate. Of course, if Brackman can do that in ‘09 against Hi-A hitters, we’ll be even more impressed !!
Brackman is also coming off major surgery… does anyone know were walks ever an issue at NC State?
yes, he would move his pivot foot about once a game
Miranda looking to impress this winter for the 25 man spot
Wow! Ramiro’s still plugging away, huh? Can’t fault his persistence, I guess.
Just for kicks, I checked out the box for the last game Ramiro picthed in the big leagues (September 1, 2005- Yanks vs. Mariners). Just looking at the rest of the Yankees relief corps that pitched in that game makes me queasy.
maybe he’ll come back to the bigs, Tatis style.
From the KLAW chat:
Keith, would CoCo and Bowden get it done for Jake Peavy? How about Coco, Bowden and Lugo for Peavy and Khalil Greene?
And people say we overvalue our prospects
Wait, you mean Michael Bowden isn’t the second coming of “Big Train” Walter Johnson?
PETER GAMMONS, YOU LIED TO ME!!!!!!
Implies that KLaw does read this blog
————————-
Steve (Albany, NY): Do you think the Yankees will trade Cano this offseason? What would his value be at this point? I think they are selling low.
Keith Law: I don’t think they’ll trade him unless they’re getting something impact in return. They know they’d be selling low, and someone - River Ave Blues? - wrote the other day that Cano hadn’t actually had that awful of a year, just an awful start, then a return to his usual self in the last four months or so.
Wait, was he serious that Pedroia will will the AL MVP? Are the other candidates really that bad this year? Yeesh, would that go down as one of the lesser MVP’s or what? I got bored of trying to fins the last MVP with that low of an OPS+…
“Are the other candidates really that bad this year?”
In a word, yes.
Stay healthy Cervelli !!
“Stay healthy” is the watch words for him, there is a lot to like about this guy…he may end up in the big show as the starting catcher. If Jorge has trouble with his arm…he is a better choice then Molina, better hitter with the(about) same tools defensively. 27/09.
Amazingly, I was shocked to find out Brett and Miranda have the same (very close) BA,OBP,SLG.OPS numbers at AAA.
Miranda must learn to stand in there against left handed pitching…if he ever does, wow! I have little experience with the computer, therefor I couldn’t find the splits etc., on Miranda…he still suck against leftys? 27/09.
Old Ranger, you can compare Cervelli to Molina’s defense no matter how good we hear Cervelli is good. It just isn’t fair to Molina, who when Jorge went down became arguably top 3 defensive catcher in the league.
what pedroia brought to the sox this year can’t be measured in ops…maybe there are other ways to determine value? if you can’t attach a number to it, it has no merit…a lot of boston’s trip was driven by pedroia
I like how you made a point, then contradicted it, then contradicted your contradiction.
Nicely done.
Does anyone have any idea what the Yankees will do with Ian Kennedy this winter in the way of development? I have heard nothing about him pitching anywhere, even in Tampa. Is a trade that certain that he will sit the winter out and not pitch at all?
Mike, Jhonatah Ortiz to bullpen in DWL, Matt Carson to play like month, Melky to debut in nov.15.
So Long is in the Dominican to work with Cano. Melky monitors, returns to hitting 300 and relplaces Nady. We trade Cano for Beltran and win the WS. Ah Soo, now all is revealed.
