NLCS Game 2

By Benjamin Kabak

Chad Billingsley and Brett Myers are set to square off in an afternoon affair. I’m not quite sure why the Phillies and Dodgers should draw the day game. After all, it’s 1:35 on a Friday in Los Angeles, and therefore, no Dodgers fans can really watch this game. Meanwhile, you have the biggest West Coast market and second-largest media market in the nation playing a team from the East Coast’s second most populous city. This should really be the night game. For this one, you’ve got your usual storylines. Manny Ramirez is hitting .500 in the playoffs while the rest of the Dodgers are hitting .213. The Phillies have scored most of their runs via the long ball. Can these trends continue? All this and more at 4:37 p.m.

Brett Myers is about to literally beat another pitcher in Billingsley who is a better pitcher, much like Sabathia was. Wow!

KW says:

I think the game shows how overrated managers are. They sure can affect the outcome of the game in some ways, but when your pitcher absolutely craps the bed as billingsley has, what can you do? This is related to all the over the top “joe torre succeeds with dodgers while yanks miss playoffs” coverage.

whozat says:

Billingsley is a bust. He’s a gutless choker. Can’t pitch in October. The Dodgers should have traded him for Carl Pavano. He has a ring, and that’s all that matters.

Reggie C. says:

hehehehe … in fact the Dodgers should teach Billingsley a lesson and ship him to the Yanks for kennedy who at least su*ks it up when it doesn’t count ! That’ll teach him …

What was the deal with putting in Kent batting 9th and the pitcher batting 7th? What happened to DeWitt?

Jamal G. says:

Since Joe Beimel walked the two batters he was brought in for (Chase Utley and Ryan Howard), Joe Torre brought in John McDonald to face Pat Burrell. With the pitcher’s spot due up second, Torre wanted to keep McDonald in for more than one batter, so he double-switched with Blake DeWitt and Jeff Kent.

Ivan says:

Rollins can sure field.

Jamal G. says:

Did you know that the 2008 season (.363) was only the second full season in Derek Jeter’s career that he was on-base less than 37% of the time (2004, .352)? To make up for that, his 2004 season also saw him post the second most Home Runs (23) of his career, and the second most extra-base hits (68) of said career.

By the way, who would you had rather have from 1997-2003: Derek Jeter or Nomar Garciaparra?

Ivan says:

Nomar was the better pure hitter, but Derek was better OBP% guy, better fielder. I’ll go Derek.

Lasoo says:

Why don’t we sign Nomar to play 1st next year so we can have the great trio of shortstops in one infield? That would be pretty sweet.

Ivan says:

I gotta tell ya, I really dig that Shane Victorino guy.

Ivan says:

Hey Clayton Kershaw.

Ivan says:

Could somebody tell Tim McCarver that Cole Hamels has the best Change up on the team.

Ivan says:

Lidge, best slider in baseball?

Simon B. says:

Ivan says:

Come on Lidge, two BB’s with a 3 run lead.
