NLCS Game 4: Phillies @ Dodgers
By
As I write this, the Rays have just gone up 9-1 in Game 3 of the ALCS. This should put them up two games to one, and ensure them a return trip to the Trop. The best part, at least from their perspective, is that this came off Jon Lester, the ace of the Sox staff. If they can take advantage of Dice-K’s tendency to hand out free bases, they could be set up well for the rest of the series.
Now, though, we move onto Dodgerland, where the home team tries to even the score with the Phillies. Joe “Cupcakes” Blanton takes the hill for the visitors. He struck out seven over six innings against the Brewers in the LDS, allowing just one run. Derek Lowe returns to the mound for the Dodgers on short rest. He’ll try to do what Chien-Ming Wang could not in last year’s LDS.
Onto the lineups:
Phillies:
Rollins, SS
Werth, RF
Utley, 2B
Howard, 1B
Burrell, LF
Victorino, CF
Dobbs, 3B
Ruiz, C
Blanton, P
Dodgers:
Furcal, SS
Ethier, RF
Ramirez, LF
Martin, C
Loney, 1B
DeWitt, 2B
Blake, 3B
Pierre, CF
Lowe, P

Wakefield goes tomorrow.
Ouch.
Who wants to find Craig Saager’s tie collection and burn it?
Can someone explain to me why Nomar Garciaparra and Juan Pierre have received starts in this series at the expense of James Loney and Matt Kemp, respectively?
Platoon.
I can buy Nomar over Loney for platoon purposes, but Pierre over Kemp is pushing it.
Pierre over anyone this side of Melky Cabrera is pushing it.
Joe Torre
Stupid Devils are killing me.
Though apparently the Rangers have someone named Girardi on the team so anytime I hear his name I’ve got tolook up and wonder what General Joe is doing in skates.
Word to the wise… If the Rangers are beating the Devils and nobody is aware or talking about it, and you’re a Devils fan, DON’T bring it up.
Eh, me and Mike are Rangers fans. It would have come up at some point.
I knew there was something I didn’t like about you guys.
My life would be so much easier if I were a Rangers fan. My dad shared season tickets to the Devils when I was a kid though. Not complaining about the 3 Stanley Cups and that whole Martin Brodeur thing, though.
If I ruled the world, I would decree that no Yankees fan could also be a Devils fan.
Yes, well, you don’t rule the world.
Anyway, Yogi is a Devils fan. Which makes it okay in my book.
*shrugs* We got three cups and Marty.
Jersey girl to the core.
Just another example of how NY > NJ.
We got Bruce.
We’ve got the Beastie Boys. We win.
Bah. We got the Shore. And diners.
We win.
And your whole state smells like an armpit. And you’re our own personal garbage dump. And everybody there drives Camaro I-Rocs and has a mullet (including women). And the best thing about your state is driving through it on the way to better, more awesomer places like The Poconos and Delaware.
We win.
The Rangers have looked mighty impressive this year. Four deep lines with one of the three or four best goalies on the planet is a winning recipe.
Let them play some games against teams that have been together longer than 30 minutes, like the Lightning. (Eh… The Rags owned the Devs last year and tonight looks like more of the same, I can’t even argue with you.)
Fuck and yes. There you go John Madden.
Was I the only one who noticed that Dodger girl is packing heat?
Go Tampa Bay!
Good job Buck for junxing Victorino.
jinxing
So, uh, baseball.
Setting the D. Lowe innings bar at 4. Over or under?
I swear I posted this before the DP.
Ellsbury, Ortiz, Drew, Varitek, Lowrie & Cora are a combined 1 for 47 in the series.
Alex Cora wins games.
BTW, are you in the Mike A.’s fantasy league, Thunder Thoughts?
Hey! Ashmore’s blog has only been around since January. I’ve been in the game for 3 years son.
Those seats behind home plate in Dodger Stadium look ridiculous on TV. It looks like a bunch of people in their living rooms were transported into the stadium.
umm.. what’s up with that chick’s crotch?
Wind? All I know is that Hef is banging her. No more questions needed.
maybe Hef’s tastes are evolving in a scary way… maybe he doens’t notice some things as he gets older…
is that kelly ripa (sp)?
Kendra Wilkinson
Is it? I took a quick glance and figured it was Alyssa Milano.
was in l.a. a few months back and saw 2 of the hef girls at a sushi place. scary
So how about that girl in the light blue tank-top in the background?
My eyes, the goggles do nothing!!!
larry bowa. making the tough decisions
meacham would have sent him
and then voluntarily flown to columbus
That’s probably a homer in Philly.
The way you guys talk about women, I’m scared that any of you might see me.
The way
you[any] guys talk about women, I’m scared that any ofyou[them] might see me.Fixed.
Point taken.
In one class last spring I shocked a guy because I knew that Carl Pavano was the 2007 opening day starter.
I know what I’m talking about when I talk sports, damn it!
I like my women like I like my sports highlights: on the internet and 90 seconds at a time.
Oh yeah, I just made that up.
Holy shit, I’m so stealing that.
I…don’t know how to respond to that…
I don’t know if I should be amused, offended or both.
Do what I do: start talking about hot Chase Utley is. That’ll shut them up right quick
*how hot
Not a bad idea. Soccer players are by far the hottest though.
Especially the European ones.
Ronaldinho looks like a damn horse.
I said EUROPEAN soccer players.
Ronaldinho plays for Brazil.
Still looks like a horse, though.
Heh, reading comprehension FTL.
Lowe not lookin good right now.
Not at all.
stay right where you are, derek. do not think of leaving the national league west
I’d be 100% OK with him coming to the AL East, provided it’s not to pitch for the Yankees.
I bet the Orioles would be interested . . .
Oy J-Roll, not cool
Mike, Brandon Jacobs is not giving you 50+ points tonight (he just scored).
I know. If I started Calvin Johnson (he was probable) over Antwaan Randle El, and John Carlson over Todd Heap, it would have been a bit closer, within slam distance, to use a baseball term.
Screw you and your Steve Breaston.
To think, I got him for Matt Ryan in a one-for-one.
Where the hell is my RAB Fantasy League “TJS Watch” sidebar as promised?
Haha, Rangers beat the Devils, and during the last minute of play fans at the Garden are chanting “YOU CAN’T BEAT US clap clap clapclapclap.”
STFU.
We’ve still won three cups since the last time you got one.
So I’m not much concerned.
I’ve come to a conclusion: NL baseball sucks.
You cant just dismiss an entire league of players without getting to know them as human beings.
You’re a League-ist.
I lol’ed
I was going to go with Anti-NL-tic but that just doesn’t roll off the tongue so well.
Personally, I’m scared of all National Leaguers. I think they’re Arabs.
Everyone seen Sickels new Top 100 list?
If not, I’ll post it.
Jonathan Niese at No. 39?
And 17-year-old Wilmer Flores at No. 29? You know, the Wilmer Flores who’s had 35-AB above Rookie ball.
I’m not the biggest fan of Sickels. I mean, can we wait for some of these guys to play a season in the minors before we rank them?
It’s not a terrible list, but there is a little weirdness. He’s putting too much stock into guys that dominated a league they were too old for.

How is Bumgarner ahead of Jeremy Hellickson and Rick Porcello ?
Uh … Carlos Santana?
srsly?
That is the greatest thing ever.
He should join Bernie’s band.
I mean this Carlos Santana.
http://web.minorleaguebaseball.....pid=467793
I love that there is an Inman (#61, RHP), and an Outman (#97, LHP).
I think that as a pitcher, Outman would get included on his name alone.
He sounds like a pitching superhero. “The Adventures of OUTMAN! Striking fear and striking out batters with his amazing 199 MPH superfastball”
Either that, or he’s a REALLY unpopular Gay guy.
No, haven’t seen it. You don’t have to post it, that’s a lot of work. Top 10 plus Yanks maybe?
Nah, no work at all. I copy and pasted it from another site.
Wow, Lars Anderson at 5.
Tell me about it, the rich get richer. The Evil Empire strikes again.
Somebody has to do something about these bastards. Pass some rule stopping them. Like the Yankee tax . . . . I mean Luxury Tax. .
Uh, I thought WE were the Evil Empire!
I’m not giving that badass name to the pansy Red Sox. They’re not NEAR as evil as we are, and they’re not an empire, more of a fiefdom, at the most.
Nope. They’ve earned it. They slayed the former Dark Lord of the Universe in 2004 and have ruled the Baseball world twice since then, and may do so again this year.
Meanwhile, we’ve lost our Darth Vader look alike (Torre) and haven’t been out of the 1st round since they destroyed us. This year we were so pathetic we didn’t even make the playoffs.
Its gotten so bad I can’t even picture Jeter at the plate with a Light Saber anymore.
I can’t believe what I’m hearing. Don’t you speak to me for 5 minutes.
We’re the Empire. They’re not. End of story. That’s the way it’s always been, that’s the way it’ll be, until the Sox win 26 titles in 75 years.
Lars is real good, but not THAT good.
Playoff towel-waving: stupid, or stupidest fucking thing you’ve ever seen?
Stupid. Classic sign of a bandwagon fan base.
Yes. Real diehard fans don’t wave towels, they hurl insults at one another, Bleacher Creatures style.
Real fans get tasered.
http://vids.myspace.com/index......d=44435700
Awesomeness abound.
Has Blanton always been a pitcher who spurts brilliance some times and gets absolutely shelled other times?
In a word, yes.
O wow, the diamond cam. haven’t seen that in a while.
Pitching to Manny FTL.
Oh yeah, it’s totally all on Torre that the Dodgers made it this far. Nothing to do with Manny at all.
nope that 1.200+ OPS didn’t help at all
(Speaking of Manny) For a man with such amazing God-given talent, why does he pull half the shit he does? I mean if he was like this year round he would without a doubt be the best, most potent hitter out there. Now you can say he already is but that’s not really the case.
Showed him something? Showed what we already know, he’s one of the most talented pitchers around?
Why bunt when you know you have to bring in Pedro Feliz, and Carlos Ruiz is the following hitter. I’m sure you’d rather have Shane Victorino at the plate rather than those two dudes.
It’s the NL, he’ll probably pinch hit.
Kershaw just lost his spot in the Circle of Trustâ„¢.
Best thing that ever happened to him, career-wise.
That just means he will have his elbow and shoulder intact a bit longer
Chan Ho Park for sleeper-starter 2009 I was just reading.
Wow, mistake by DeWitt. Lucked out though, Howard didn’t go.
Oh that Wild Pitch
Thats why you bunt
The only way the Phils were gonna score with Ruiz at the plate.
Anybody see any midges?
Pedroia?
Tim McCarver, Ryan Howard did not come close to missing home plate, you old bastard.
Old SENILE bastard.
That comment by McCarver was despicable, just despicable. Totally, totally, despicable.
Hes an old man. What do you expect. He looks like hes almost on his last leg anyway. I remember one day he was on with Mike Francesa and he was talking fast and was alert and after the interview Mike was like Wow Timmy was sharp today Sarcastically lol.
FWIW, according to Baseball Reference, Chan Ho Park has made $81,756,945 in his baseball career. Not counting 2007 and 2008. He’s gotta be at at least $84 million by now.
CHAN HO PARK HAS EARNED EIGHTY-FOUR MILLION DOLLARS TO PLAY BASEBALL.
I earn $0.00 to study history!
Yay!
Jason Varitek was an All-Star this season; I win.
Let’s see how many times they call Jenkins “the former Brewer great”
The bust who can’t throw harder than 91-MPH just won the AFL’s Pitcher of the Week crown: http://mlb.mlb.com/news/articl.....p;c_id=nyy
BUT HE’S NOT CHINESE!!!!!
ahhhaha
Who said he can’t throw harder than 91?
Idiots. Many, many, many idiots.
I wasn’t sure you meant Kennedy or not. Now he’s a bust who can’t throw harder than 89, but that’s an argument for another day.
Is it just me or is “Javelinas” the most phallic name you’ve ever heard for a Baseball team?
wtf eli
Seriously. This ain’t 2004, as Ivan would say, get your shit together.
Is there any reason McCarver sits on that directors chair which looks extraordinarily uncomfortable when Buck sits on that comfy office chair?
The GritBeard does it’s thang.
I had a feeling Blake would hit a Homer.
All that grit paid off.
Gritty HR right there, no talent, just sheer will.
Is that all it takes? Shit, I could pull that off.
My bitch ass high school coaches kept telling me to practice which wore down my grit.
You are a very angry teenager aren’t you?
Psh Who else saw the hooters on that fan? Sorry I had to lol.
Probably fake.
nice game going on here… at least the LCS have been much more entertaining then the DS (aside from the Cub’s epic failure)
Its funny you say that. Im sitting here looking at the teams and wondering to myself, Did I see either one of these teams going to the WS before the playoffs started.
How long is Park locked up?
Just this year, free agent in the offseason.
You think we would look at him or even turn his way as a cheap alternative? or he would prefer LA?
he already left LA once for big money…I would stay away his numbers have been awful outside of LA
I’d stick to LA, or at least the NL if I were him.
1.40-WHIP as a reliever in the N.L. West, no thank you.
Jesus christ Howard, what the fuck was that.
Yeah, we need a real First Basemen next season.
In all seriousness, if they can’t get Tex, the next guy I want is Mientkiewicz.
Im with ya on that or mayb e Adam LaRoche if we could get him for cheap
I really think the defense is a more prevalent need than the starting rotation of this team.
That depends on the return of Mike Mussina and Andy Pettitte.
Yea and he really isn’t all that bad of a hitter people make him out to be. It seems like he had a few 3 run home runs while he was in NY. He had a .277 BA and a .374 OBP. Not Tex but not terrible.
If he puts up a .360 OBP and .440 SLG with legit Gold Glove caliber defense … man, that would be exactly what the Yanks need. Add some stability to the position.
You don’t need stars at every position.
No sir, just stability and consistency.
We need Tex…. HEs 8 times what doug is and has a better glove
I disagree with the “has a better glove thing,” respectfully of course.
Tex @ 7/154 to hit .300-.380-.540
or
Mink @ 1/1 to hit .270-.360-.440
?
So what you are telling me is that you’d rather go out and get a guy who in all regards is an outstanding player, who is going to cost around 22 mill a year, in comparison to a guy who we can get for probably 2 years around 4.5 mill or so who provides a great glove and is versatile when it comes to where he can play and spend the rest of that money assuring the pitching staff?
and hes said he wants to return to NY, he really should be signed regardless, gives a good defensive player and has shown he can play 3rd or corner outfield in a pinch
And it doesn’t seem like he strikes out all that much either. Not to mention Pittsburgh played him at virtually every position, And has a BA w/ RISP of .344 and that’s oh, I don’t know, Only like .140 + from Giambi.
Manny rocking the mouthguard
Wow, what a rally killer. All grit by Utley.
the giants are looking like garbage right now
Against the Browns!
The defense looks like it’s the first two weeks of 2007 all over again.
the browns are just hemorrhaging yards in penalties and then we let them get a 15 yard completion. A loss like this wouldnt be bad as it will surely fire them up for the next few games because of the negative press it will generate.
That little hop by Kuo was awesome
Kuo is just nasty.
Hot damn, Kuo just pwned the Phils.
Wow Kuo just smoked those hitters.
God damn, this Giants’ defense is nausea inducing.
But I thought they were the best team in football???
Oh, you shut your God Damn mouth.
and Ross goes down
Does Miranda’s Fall League contribute to him getting a shot at first base, or is he completely off the yankees radar?
Oh Eli, you down-syndrome having son of a bitch.
probably more of a platoon guy.
trade bait
you gotta be shitting me eli
and people say he was better QB than his brother.
No, fucking morons say that.
I was reading articles saying he has surpass his brother. Hard to believe.
If Football had the stat WARP or VORP, Peyton arguebably would lead the league in that department.
well this season he has been. up until this game
Off topic.. Oh no. Lol I love it here. I posted something about a guy who sounds exactly like Bob Sheppard and I had Ben allover my ass. and there’s all this football chatter going on and not a word is said.
game threads are the same as an open thread if you posted something in a thread that had a specific topic then thats grounds for an assblast
It was a thread about Mecham our soon to be ex 3-rd base coach. If that doesn’t count as an open thread I don’t know what does. Considering it got about 9 comments.
I agree.. Ben gets so upset by it hes like a dictator… soon this site will not be run by 3 guys but by one and it will be King Ben and mike and joe will have to pay him to write posts on this site
Yeah It’s really bullshit. Mike is very interactive on this site, I think hes a pretty chill guy. Joe we don’t see to much of for whatever reason and Ben takes the “rules” a little too seriously. but regardless here is the link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v.....ature=user
Maybe you guys should show Ben whose boss by refusing to visit his site anymore!
No just because some guy gets twisted off something which is nothing isn’t going to stop me from coming to a website that I like with people that I like, For the most part.
The off-topic posts are annoying as hell. Game threads are basically an open thread because it’s the end of the day and everyone wants one place to talk about whatever’s going on.
It’s frustrating to work on a post then have the discussion be about anything but the post topic. We ask kindly that you keep it on topic for specific posts during the day, but go nuts in game threads.
Yeah, You asked kindly. Your pal was slightly different.
you guys need to chill the hell out and stop complaining they do this pretty much for fun and should be able to enforce whatever rules they want.
Respectfully, Why? Because I used you as an example? And if this is done for fun, Why is it such a big deal if I post something I think everyone will find amazing and enjoy? RELATED TO THE YANKEES! I mean I agree to comply with the rules because that’s only fair but we aren’t talking about the 10 commandments here.
Your just giving Ben business by frequenting his site. The best way to shut him down is to just stop commenting. Dont feed the beast!
Dude, Respectfully, nobody invited you to this conversation. The matter at hand isn’t me wanting to get the site shut down, I enjoy the site, its nice to come here and BS with the guys. So before you come in here and poke your nose in a a situation, at least know what its about.
O im not mad i just think its funny .. they can do w.e they want its their site ill still come here its a really cool blog and i enjoy the commenting
Flyin’ Hawaiian.
Man I love me some Victorino.
Is it me? Every time i look up Victorino is getting some huge hit or making an outstanding play in the field.
he can play on my team anyday.
Hey now!
Bow-chicka-bow-bow!
Tom Coughlin better run these assholes into the ground when they get back to New York, they look so pathetic.
Look at the Canadian!
See how Marioano made Torre a genius.
Mariano
Tell me my Link isn’t amazing guys. Who wants to join me in starting a sort of petition I guess to get this guy hired by the yankees.
Holy crap moly.
Seriously?
Yeah, that was fucking amazing. Heh, all that is missing is the frequent lip smacks.
Wanna start something with people of higher status to get this man hired? I mean I was swept off my feet when I saw this.
Heh, if this turns out to be you or a relative of yours, that would be cool.
No seriously. I was youtubing for a Bob Sheppard interview he did that i saw on a Yankeeography and i came across that. Lol i have no relation to this dude.
There’s a Bob Sheppard Yankeeography?
no the YankeesStadium one. But what do u feel about the video?
It’s awesome. I’m going to post it in the morning, with an appropriate hat tip of course.
haha browns fans are chanting “OVERRATED” i guess winning a superbowl and starting the season undefeated warrants being called overrated
Now, with all due respect have you ever watched the Browns. They are horrendous. This is their highlight for the next ten years. Let them enjoy it.
The Giants deserve that chant. They played horrendous on national tv against a terrible team.
What they deserve is an old-fashioned kick in the ass by Tom Coughlin. Pathetic display tonight.
Keep in mind JC Romero has 38 BB’s in 59IP, why is ethier swinging at the first pitch is beyond me.
Looks like a bunch of crips in Dodger stadium, shit.
Come on Lidge.
Uh oh, settle down Lidge.
http://i15.photobucket.com/alb....._Owned.jpg
Oh snap, it’s only the 8th inning.
Ah man, that’s all sorts of funny.
Oh, I went to BRGR on Saturday, pretty damn good. It’s not as expensive as you made it sound, I paid like $25 for a meal for two.
On 7th Ave? Yeah? Maybe it was expensive because I went all out and got some tricked out mega burger or something.
Ah, that’s probably why. We had two burgers, two drinks and one order of fries.
Sorry, we had two plain-ass burgers. I didn’t add anything special and she added pickles or something, so nothing crazy. I guess I’ll go back and check out some of the extra shit they got.
BTW, where’s that shack joint Joe was talking about?
Washington Square Park somewhere, on the corner somewhere.
Thanks, that helps a ton.
http://www.shakeshacknyc.com/
Does that help?
Better had…
Oh, that was unnecessary.
Eh, at least I didn’t get Rick Ross’d.
What is BRGR?
Cool little burger joint on 7th Ave. bet. 26th & 27th. It’s quite famous. Anytime you read something in the papers about the best burger joints in NYC, they always come up. Them and that shack thing Joe referenced, but I never checked either of them out. I’m more of a pasta, seafood or salad type guy.
oh okay, I wanna check that place out.
I’m more of a pasta, seafood or salad type guy.
You sissy.
http://www.meatatariansunite.com/join/
Yeah, you enjoy all that heart-clogging goodness. Do you know what’s in the slop that pigs eat? Savage.
Everytime I look at it, I LMAO.
I know, it’s impossible not to laugh at it.
$10 says some douchebag writer will use this game as a crutch for their “Joba in the pen” argument.
Because Broxton gave up the go ahead homer?
And neither starter did much of anything?
Good Job Lidge.
If the Phils win this game, I have a hard time believing that the dodgers can win 3 straight and especially two straight at citizen’s bank park.
Notre Dame Alumni Lidge doing his thang.
Joe Torre’s gonna have to do a killer managing job to get dem bums to the WS.
John Kruk’s on ESPN about to B his L on someone’s T over the Phils being so close to the WS.
(hopefully someone gets that reference)
I’m hungry now, but I failed to get the reference (if in fact it wasn’t a fat joke).
Forgetting Sarah Marshall.
I saw that multiple times, and I have not a clue to what the fuck you are talking about. Now I actually know what you mean, but I’m still lost on the specific scene.
BTW, tell me the rocker dude wasn’t one of the funniest movie characters you’ve seen in some time. That guy was classic.
Early in the moving, when he’s sitting in the club with his stepbrother, and he’s like “I need to fuck someone,” and his stepbro’s like “no, you don’t need to put your P in a V.” He replies “yeah, I do, I need to B my L on someone’s T.”
Great flick. You wanted to hate that british asshole so much, but you couldn’t. He did a great acting job.
