NLCS Game 4: Phillies @ Dodgers

By

As I write this, the Rays have just gone up 9-1 in Game 3 of the ALCS. This should put them up two games to one, and ensure them a return trip to the Trop. The best part, at least from their perspective, is that this came off Jon Lester, the ace of the Sox staff. If they can take advantage of Dice-K’s tendency to hand out free bases, they could be set up well for the rest of the series.

Now, though, we move onto Dodgerland, where the home team tries to even the score with the Phillies. Joe “Cupcakes” Blanton takes the hill for the visitors. He struck out seven over six innings against the Brewers in the LDS, allowing just one run. Derek Lowe returns to the mound for the Dodgers on short rest. He’ll try to do what Chien-Ming Wang could not in last year’s LDS.

Onto the lineups:

Phillies:
Rollins, SS
Werth, RF
Utley, 2B
Howard, 1B
Burrell, LF
Victorino, CF
Dobbs, 3B
Ruiz, C
Blanton, P

Dodgers:
Furcal, SS
Ethier, RF
Ramirez, LF
Martin, C
Loney, 1B
DeWitt, 2B
Blake, 3B
Pierre, CF
Lowe, P

Can someone explain to me why Nomar Garciaparra and Juan Pierre have received starts in this series at the expense of James Loney and Matt Kemp, respectively?

  4. Stupid Devils are killing me.

Though apparently the Rangers have someone named Girardi on the team so anytime I hear his name I’ve got tolook up and wonder what General Joe is doing in skates.

Was I the only one who noticed that Dodger girl is packing heat?

Ellsbury, Ortiz, Drew, Varitek, Lowrie & Cora are a combined 1 for 47 in the series.

  9. The Honorable Congressman Mondesi says:

Those seats behind home plate in Dodger Stadium look ridiculous on TV. It looks like a bunch of people in their living rooms were transported into the stadium.

Lowe not lookin good right now.

  17. dkidd says:

stay right where you are, derek. do not think of leaving the national league west

    • Accent Shallow says:

I’d be 100% OK with him coming to the AL East, provided it’s not to pitch for the Yankees.

I bet the Orioles would be interested . . .

  18. Jamal G. says:

Mike, Brandon Jacobs is not giving you 50+ points tonight (he just scored).

  19. Mike A. says:

Haha, Rangers beat the Devils, and during the last minute of play fans at the Garden are chanting “YOU CAN’T BEAT US clap clap clapclapclap.”

  20. Mike A. says:

I’ve come to a conclusion: NL baseball sucks.

  21. Steve says:

      4 Yanks at #37, 56, 58, 91

    • Mike A. says:

No, haven’t seen it. You don’t have to post it, that’s a lot of work. Top 10 plus Yanks maybe?

      • Steve says:

Nah, no work at all. I copy and pasted it from another site.

      • Joe says:

        Wow, Lars Anderson at 5.

        • Steve says:

Tell me about it, the rich get richer. The Evil Empire strikes again.

Somebody has to do something about these bastards. Pass some rule stopping them. Like the Yankee tax . . . . I mean Luxury Tax. .

          • Uh, I thought WE were the Evil Empire!

I’m not giving that badass name to the pansy Red Sox. They’re not NEAR as evil as we are, and they’re not an empire, more of a fiefdom, at the most.

            • Steve says:

Nope. They’ve earned it. They slayed the former Dark Lord of the Universe in 2004 and have ruled the Baseball world twice since then, and may do so again this year.

Meanwhile, we’ve lost our Darth Vader look alike (Torre) and haven’t been out of the 1st round since they destroyed us. This year we were so pathetic we didn’t even make the playoffs.

Its gotten so bad I can’t even picture Jeter at the plate with a Light Saber anymore.

              • I can’t believe what I’m hearing. Don’t you speak to me for 5 minutes.

We’re the Empire. They’re not. End of story. That’s the way it’s always been, that’s the way it’ll be, until the Sox win 26 titles in 75 years.

        • Mike A. says:

Lars is real good, but not THAT good.

  22. UWS says:

Playoff towel-waving: stupid, or stupidest fucking thing you’ve ever seen?

  23. Joey H. says:

Has Blanton always been a pitcher who spurts brilliance some times and gets absolutely shelled other times?

  24. Joey H. says:

O wow, the diamond cam. haven’t seen that in a while.

  25. Mike A. says:

    Pitching to Manny FTL.

  26. UWS says:

Oh yeah, it’s totally all on Torre that the Dodgers made it this far. Nothing to do with Manny at all.

  27. Joey H. says:

(Speaking of Manny) For a man with such amazing God-given talent, why does he pull half the shit he does? I mean if he was like this year round he would without a doubt be the best, most potent hitter out there. Now you can say he already is but that’s not really the case.

  28. A.D. says:

Showed him something? Showed what we already know, he’s one of the most talented pitchers around?

  29. Jamal G. says:

Why bunt when you know you have to bring in Pedro Feliz, and Carlos Ruiz is the following hitter. I’m sure you’d rather have Shane Victorino at the plate rather than those two dudes.

  30. Mike A. says:

Kershaw just lost his spot in the Circle of Trust™.

  31. Joey H. says:

Chan Ho Park for sleeper-starter 2009 I was just reading.

  32. Mike A. says:

Wow, mistake by DeWitt. Lucked out though, Howard didn’t go.

  33. Ivan says:

The only way the Phils were gonna score with Ruiz at the plate.

  34. Jamal G. says:

    Anybody see any midges?

  35. Jamal G. says:

Tim McCarver, Ryan Howard did not come close to missing home plate, you old bastard.

  36. FWIW, according to Baseball Reference, Chan Ho Park has made $81,756,945 in his baseball career. Not counting 2007 and 2008. He’s gotta be at at least $84 million by now.

CHAN HO PARK HAS EARNED EIGHTY-FOUR MILLION DOLLARS TO PLAY BASEBALL.

  37. Joey H. says:

Let’s see how many times they call Jenkins “the former Brewer great”

  38. Jamal G. says:

The bust who can’t throw harder than 91-MPH just won the AFL’s Pitcher of the Week crown: http://mlb.mlb.com/news/articl.....8;c_id=nyy

  39. Joey H. says:

Is there any reason McCarver sits on that directors chair which looks extraordinarily uncomfortable when Buck sits on that comfy office chair?

  40. Mike A. says:

    The GritBeard does it’s thang.

  41. Ivan says:

I had a feeling Blake would hit a Homer.

    All that grit paid off.

  42. Jamal G. says:

Gritty HR right there, no talent, just sheer will.

  43. Joey H. says:

Psh Who else saw the hooters on that fan? Sorry I had to lol.

  44. RollingWave says:

nice game going on here… at least the LCS have been much more entertaining then the DS (aside from the Cub’s epic failure)

    • Joey H. says:

Its funny you say that. Im sitting here looking at the teams and wondering to myself, Did I see either one of these teams going to the WS before the playoffs started.

  45. Joey H. says:

How long is Park locked up?

  46. Ivan says:

Jesus christ Howard, what the fuck was that.

  47. Jamal G. says:

Yeah, we need a real First Basemen next season.

  48. A.D. says:

    Manny rocking the mouthguard

  49. Mike A. says:

Wow, what a rally killer. All grit by Utley.

  50. pat says:

the giants are looking like garbage right now

  51. Joe says:

That little hop by Kuo was awesome

  52. Ivan says:

    Kuo is just nasty.

  53. Mike A. says:

Hot damn, Kuo just pwned the Phils.

  54. Ivan says:

Wow Kuo just smoked those hitters.

  55. Jamal G. says:

God damn, this Giants’ defense is nausea inducing.

  56. Joe says:

Does Miranda’s Fall League contribute to him getting a shot at first base, or is he completely off the yankees radar?

  57. pat says:

you gotta be shitting me eli

    • Ivan says:

and people say he was better QB than his brother.

    • Joey H. says:

Off topic.. Oh no. Lol I love it here. I posted something about a guy who sounds exactly like Bob Sheppard and I had Ben allover my ass. and there’s all this football chatter going on and not a word is said.

      • pat says:

game threads are the same as an open thread if you posted something in a thread that had a specific topic then thats grounds for an assblast

        • Joey H. says:

It was a thread about Mecham our soon to be ex 3-rd base coach. If that doesn’t count as an open thread I don’t know what does. Considering it got about 9 comments.

      • Mike Pop says:

I agree.. Ben gets so upset by it hes like a dictator… soon this site will not be run by 3 guys but by one and it will be King Ben and mike and joe will have to pay him to write posts on this site

        • Joey H. says:

Yeah It’s really bullshit. Mike is very interactive on this site, I think hes a pretty chill guy. Joe we don’t see to much of for whatever reason and Ben takes the “rules” a little too seriously. but regardless here is the link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v.....ature=user

          • Joe says:

Maybe you guys should show Ben whose boss by refusing to visit his site anymore!

            • Joey H. says:

No just because some guy gets twisted off something which is nothing isn’t going to stop me from coming to a website that I like with people that I like, For the most part.

              • Mike A. says:

The off-topic posts are annoying as hell. Game threads are basically an open thread because it’s the end of the day and everyone wants one place to talk about whatever’s going on.

It’s frustrating to work on a post then have the discussion be about anything but the post topic. We ask kindly that you keep it on topic for specific posts during the day, but go nuts in game threads.

        • pat says:

you guys need to chill the hell out and stop complaining they do this pretty much for fun and should be able to enforce whatever rules they want.

          • Joey H. says:

Respectfully, Why? Because I used you as an example? And if this is done for fun, Why is it such a big deal if I post something I think everyone will find amazing and enjoy? RELATED TO THE YANKEES! I mean I agree to comply with the rules because that’s only fair but we aren’t talking about the 10 commandments here.

            • Joe says:

Your just giving Ben business by frequenting his site. The best way to shut him down is to just stop commenting. Dont feed the beast!

              • Joey H. says:

Dude, Respectfully, nobody invited you to this conversation. The matter at hand isn’t me wanting to get the site shut down, I enjoy the site, its nice to come here and BS with the guys. So before you come in here and poke your nose in a a situation, at least know what its about.

          • Mike Pop says:

O im not mad i just think its funny .. they can do w.e they want its their site ill still come here its a really cool blog and i enjoy the commenting

  58. Jamal G. says:

    Flyin’ Hawaiian.

  59. Ivan says:

Man I love me some Victorino.

  60. Joey H. says:

Is it me? Every time i look up Victorino is getting some huge hit or making an outstanding play in the field.

  61. Jamal G. says:

Tom Coughlin better run these assholes into the ground when they get back to New York, they look so pathetic.

  62. Jamal G. says:

    Look at the Canadian!

  63. Ivan says:

See how Marioano made Torre a genius.

  64. Joey H. says:

Tell me my Link isn’t amazing guys. Who wants to join me in starting a sort of petition I guess to get this guy hired by the yankees.

  65. pat says:

haha browns fans are chanting “OVERRATED” i guess winning a superbowl and starting the season undefeated warrants being called overrated

    • Joe says:

Now, with all due respect have you ever watched the Browns. They are horrendous. This is their highlight for the next ten years. Let them enjoy it.

  66. Lanny says:

The Giants deserve that chant. They played horrendous on national tv against a terrible team.

  67. Ivan says:

Keep in mind JC Romero has 38 BB’s in 59IP, why is ethier swinging at the first pitch is beyond me.

  68. Ivan says:

Looks like a bunch of crips in Dodger stadium, shit.

  69. Ivan says:

    Come on Lidge.

  70. Jamal G. says:

$10 says some douchebag writer will use this game as a crutch for their “Joba in the pen” argument.

  71. Ivan says:

    Good Job Lidge.

  72. Ivan says:

If the Phils win this game, I have a hard time believing that the dodgers can win 3 straight and especially two straight at citizen’s bank park.

  73. Ivan says:

Notre Dame Alumni Lidge doing his thang.

  74. Mike A. says:

Joe Torre’s gonna have to do a killer managing job to get dem bums to the WS.

  75. Mike A. says:

John Kruk’s on ESPN about to B his L on someone’s T over the Phils being so close to the WS.

    (hopefully someone gets that reference)

    • Jamal G. says:

I’m hungry now, but I failed to get the reference (if in fact it wasn’t a fat joke).

      • Mike A. says:

        Forgetting Sarah Marshall.

        • Jamal G. says:

I saw that multiple times, and I have not a clue to what the fuck you are talking about. Now I actually know what you mean, but I’m still lost on the specific scene.

BTW, tell me the rocker dude wasn’t one of the funniest movie characters you’ve seen in some time. That guy was classic.

          • Mike A. says:

Early in the moving, when he’s sitting in the club with his stepbrother, and he’s like “I need to fuck someone,” and his stepbro’s like “no, you don’t need to put your P in a V.” He replies “yeah, I do, I need to B my L on someone’s T.”

Great flick. You wanted to hate that british asshole so much, but you couldn’t. He did a great acting job.
