Suspended WS Game 5 postponed

By Mike Axisa

Via Richard Justice, tonight’s completion of Game Five will be postponed until at least tomorrow due to ongoing crappy weather in the Philadelphia area. Tomorrow’s weather looks better, so they should be able to finish the game up then. I blame A-Rod for this mess.

Update (1:40pm): MLB is saying that the game will tentatively be resumed at 8:37pm on Wednesday in Philly.

Is that David Justice’s dad?

Ben K. says:

Yes. We start posts only by referencing someone’s Dad these days.

Now Cole Hamels can pitch on three days’ rest in Game 7 (the travel day will be canceled due to the rain-out, I believe).

Mike A. says:

But this is where it gets interesting: the Trop isn’t available on Friday because of a concert, so Game 7 would have to be on Saturday. Hamels could go on regular rest then.

All of this is assuming Philly doesn’t put Tampa away before then.

Bo says:

They won’t cancel a concert for a WS game???

Well, it is Amy Grant. She’s huge on the Gulf Coast.

Andy In Sunny Daytona says:

You can’t mess with the religious right(?) in Florida.

Chris says:

This is actually good news, because starting a WS game after Obama’s commercial would be ridiculous. You can certainly resume the game at 9 and complete the last 3 innings by 11pm, making everyone happy.

Ben K. says:

But it’s going to be a 20 inning game. So it won’t end until 1 a.m. anyway.

matt K says:

blaming a rod makes perfect sense this is happening just days after the release of his commercial

Bo says:

It’s about time he showed a sense of humor and some humility. It’s an odd # yr next yr. That means MVP. Now get him some pitching.

Jamal G. says:

Yes, because you are around Alex Rodriguez 24/7 and contain a clear, first-hand sense of his personality.

Good news since now I don’t have to worry about House being disrupted by the game.

The fat black guy from Police Academy has his own TV show?

Shamus says:

From Jon Heyman on WFAN. Talking about Yanks plans for winter:

- Will go all out for CC
- Yankees have discussed Holliday
- Matsui’s name have been attached to Seattle
- Damon’s name have been attached to White Sox

Wants to shore-up OF defense, and pitching. 1B as well.

Hot Stove can’t get scorching fast enough !

I think you misheard. What they actually said was, “Yankees have discussed taking a holiday.”

The other thing, the one your wrote, is sheer lunacy and could never be true.

Shamus says:

Thats Matt Holliday, there Tommay, not Roy Halladay.

Why couldn’t that be true?

UWS says:

Matt Holliday has pretty severe home/road splits, is heading into the last year of his contract, will command a fortune in prospects and a new contract, has Scott Boras as his agent (I believe). Sounds like lunacy to me.

Yup, well said, UWS. And Shamus, I responded as you requested on the subsequent post.

While I have no problem blaming A-Rod for any of the Yanks misfortunes, blaming him for this is just flat-out unfair, and may cause severe harm to his fragile (that’s Italian) psyche.
